Basil Wingfield Digby

Stephen Basil Wingfield Digby MBE was an Anglican priest: the Archdeacon of Sarum from 1968 to 1979.

Born on 10 November 1910, he was educated at Marlborough and Christ Church, Oxford. He was ordained in 1937 [1] and his first post was as a curate at St Paul's, Salisbury. After this he was Priest in charge at St George's, Poole and then Vicar of Sherborne. During the war he was a Chaplain to the Forces and was awarded the MBE in 1944. [2]

He died on 22 January 1996. [3]

The Ven. Frank McGowan, MBE, MA was an Anglican priest: the Archdeacon of Sarum from 1951 until his death on 21 February 1968. Born on 7 October 1895, he was educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. After World War I service with the Duke of Wellington's Regiment and later the Machine Gun Corps wounded in action he was discharged and awarded a British War Medal, Allied Victory Medal and Discharge badge No 366001. He was ordained in 1923. He was a curate at St Michael and All Angels, Bournemouth before serving incumbencies at St Mark's, Birmingham and then St Nicholas, Cholderton until his archdeacon's appointment.

Eric Gethyn-Jones

Canon John Eric Gethyn-Jones MBE was a clergyman and historian of Gloucestershire. He served in the Royal Army Chaplains' Department during the Second World War for which he was awarded the MBE in 1945. Later he was vicar of St Mary of the Virgin’s Church, Berkeley, and rose to the position of Canon. He wrote a number of works including books on the history of Dymock and Berkeley, Gloucestershire.
