Basketball was one of the 13 sports disciplines held in the 1970 Asian Games again in Bangkok, Thailand. South Korea got their first Asian basketball title by outlasting the defending champions Israel in the championship round. The games were held from December 10 to 19, 1970.

Basketball at the 1988 Summer Olympics was the twelfth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at the Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea from 17 September to 30 September 1988. The United States won the gold medal in the women's competition, repeating their performance from the 1984 tournament.

The 1986 FIBA World Championship was the 10th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's national teams. It was hosted by Spain and was held from 5 to 20 July 1986. The final phase of the tournament was held at the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad, Madrid. They were classified as the official men's basketball event of the 1986 Goodwill Games, held simultaneously in Moscow. This was the final tournament for West Germany, which did not participate in the next tournament prior to its unification with East Germany.

Basketball was one of the 16 sports disciplines held in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, Iran. Israel won their 2nd title by beating the defending champions South Korea in the championship match. This is also the first time that women's edition were held, and Japan emerged as the first-ever champions after a round-robin format. The games were held from September 2 to 15, 1974.

The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship was the 28th and last edition of the FIBA Asia Championship in men's basketball in Asia. It was organised by FIBA Asia.

The men's tournament of the 2014 Asian Games Basketball Competition was held from 20 September to 3 October 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. China was the defending Gold medal winners of the competition in 2010, which they won in their home soil. South Korea emulated that feat by winning the Gold Medal in Incheon in 2014. Iran and Japan completed the podium by winning the Silver and Bronze medals, respectively. Games of the tournament were held at the 7,406 seat Samsan World Gymnasium, and the 5,158 seat Hwaseong Sports Complex.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification was the first World Cup for which teams had to qualify for under the new qualification system. The process determined 31 out of the 32 teams that participated at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, the 18th edition of FIBA's premier international tournament for women's national basketball teams, was held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain from 22 to 30 September 2018. This was the first edition to use the name of FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. UAAP Season 85 was the 2022–23 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). Season 85 theme is "Rise as One", and the season host was the Adamson University. With just seven events in Season 84, the collegiate league will be bringing back the full athletic calendar of events for Season 85.
