The 6th Asian Games, also known as Bangkok 1970 were held from 9 to 20 December 1970 in Bangkok, Thailand. Seoul, South Korea, had been selected to host the 6th Games but it declined due to both financial reasons and security threats from neighboring North Korea. The previous host, Thailand, stepped in to save the Asiad. 2,400 athletes from 18 countries competed in this Asiad, where yachting made its debut.

Mohammad Ghorbani is a retired Iranian flyweight freestyle wrestler who competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico and the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. He won the world title (gold) in the 1971 World Wrestling Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, placed second (silver) in the 1969 World Wrestling Championships in March del Plata, Argentina, and placed third (bronze) in the 1970 World Wrestling Championships in Edmonton, Canada. He also won a gold medal at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Gelegjamtsyn Ösökhbayar is a retired amateur Mongolian freestyle wrestler, who competed in the men's super heavyweight category. Considered one of Mongolia's top wrestlers in his decade, Gelegjamts has claimed a bronze medal at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, picked up the 130-kg title at the 2001 Asian Wrestling Championships in Ulaanbaatar, and also represented his nation Mongolia at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Captain Mukhtiar Singh, popularly known as Mukhiya, was an Indian wrestler. He was the first one to grab two gold medals for India in Commonwealth Games and also he won a bronze medal in the 1970 Asian Games. He served Indian Army for 26 years and retired as Hon. Captain in 1988. Indian Army honored him with Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his outstanding services. He was awarded Arjun Award, the second-highest sporting honour of India, in 1967.

She won a bronze medal in the women's 53 kg event at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships and again in the women's 53 kg event at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships.

Rim Jong-sim is a North Korean freestyle wrestler. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's freestyle 62 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
