Basketball at the 2018 Asian Games was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 14 August to 1 September 2018 and contested two events: 5x5 and 3x3 basketball. [1] [2] This was the first Asian Games tournament for 3x3 basketball. [3]

The official draw for both the men's and women's basketball events were held on 5 July 2018 in Jakarta. [4] The teams were seeded based on their final ranking at the 2014 Asian Games.

* The Philippines [5] and Palestine [6] withdrew after the draw. On 5 August, the Philippines, through a hastily-made press conference by their national basketball federation, decided to field a team but they were placed in Group D to balance the number of teams in each group. The United Arab Emirates withdrew few days before the start of the competition.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 19th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams, held from 25 August to 10 September 2023. The tournament was the second to feature 32 teams and was hosted by multiple nations for the first time in its history—the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

The Philippines participated at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. The country won 21 medals to finish 19th overall in the medal tally of the games; an improvement from 22nd place placement of the country in the previous 2014 edition. However this came short of the 15th place target set by officials who deemed the actual placement as acceptable. Two of the Philippines' gold medal came from golf, while the other two came from weightlifting and skateboarding.

A total of ten teams, the most ever, competed in the competition at two competition venues in Jakarta: Gelora Bung Karno Baseball Field and Rawamangun Baseball Field. The baseball teams of Laos, Sri Lanka and hosts Indonesia made their Asian Games baseball debut. The top six ranked teams, along with the hosts Indonesia, advanced to the main draw. The bottom three teams competed, with the winner advancing to the main draw.
The women's 3x3 basketball tournament at the 2018 Asian Games was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Center Court, Jakarta, Indonesia from 21 to 26 August 2018. Teams were restricted to under-23 players.
