The Ministry of Tourism (Indonesian : Kementerian Pariwisata) (abbreviated Kemenpar) is the ministry in Indonesia concerned with administration of tourism.
In the 1990s, tourism was a directorate general within the Department of Tourism, Posts and Telecommunications (Indonesian : Departemen Pariwisata, Pos dan Telekomunikasi) which concerned with administration of postal and telecommunication as well., [1] not a standalone department/ministry yet. [2]
The department name changes to Department of Tourism, Art and Culture (Indonesian : Departemen Pariwisata, Seni, dan Budaya) under the Seventh Development Cabinet by transferring the Posts and Telecommunications responsibility to Department of Transportation. It became the State Ministry of Tourism and Art (Indonesian : Menteri Negara Pariwisata dan Kesenian) and changes to become Department of Tourism and Culture (Indonesian : Departemen Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata) on Gus Dur's National Unity Cabinet. It became the State Ministry of Culture and Tourism during Megawati's presidency (Mutual Assistance Cabinet) and changed name again to become Ministry of Culture and Tourism during the first term of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's presidency (United Indonesia Cabinet). It changed into Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy during the second term (Second United Indonesia Cabinet) of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono presidency as the cultural responsibilities were transferred into Ministry of Education and Culture.
In 2014, the ministry name changes to become the Ministry of Tourism after President Joko Widodo announce the cabinet line up. [3] Joko Widodo plan to spin off the Directorate General of Creative Economy into a new separate organisation which will be named Creative Economy Agency (Indonesian: Badan Ekonomi Kreatif). [4] However, the decision later reversed by Joko Widodo in his second administration. The Creative Economy Agency later re-merged to the Ministry of Tourism; however, it retains the original structure of both agencies. Thus, the ministry have a new agency attached, Tourism and Creative Economy Agency. [5] [6]
In 2024, the ministry was separated into 2 ministries, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Creative Economy under Prabowo Subianto presidency.
Based on Presidential Decree No. 96/2019 and 97/2019, and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Decree No. 1/2021, the ministerial part consisted of:
Visit Indonesia Year was a New Order Indonesia inaugurated series of years of promoting Indonesia to the world tourism industry. [7] It was considered as part of the Visit Indonesia Decade. [8] The Years were announced by Suharto at the beginning of each year during his time in power, and it was his presidential decisions that made the operation of the years function within the governmental process. As part of the 1994–1995 - 1999–2000 five-year plan, the government set a target of 6.5 million foreign tourists, bringing in US$9 billion in foreign exchange, with 84.2 million domestic tourists spending Rp9 trillion. It was hoped that tourism would generate 900,000 new jobs. [9]
The first year was the Visit Indonesia Year 1991. [10] The last major campaign was Visit Indonesia Year 2008 that launched to commemorate 100 years of Indonesian National Awakening in 1908. In January 2011, Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched the “Wonderful Indonesia” campaign [11] to replace "Visit Indonesia Year", although the logo of stylized curves Garuda remain. [12]
It was re-continued after some years of absence in 2008 with the theme of Celebrating 100 years of National Awakening. [13] [14]
The Post-Suharto era is the contemporary history in Indonesia, which began with the resignation of authoritarian president Suharto on 21 May 1998. Since his resignation, the country has been in a period of transition, colloquially known as the Reform era. This period has been characterised by a more open political-social environment and grassroots economic improvement.

Wishnutama Kusubandio is a former Indonesian journalist and businessman. He was co-founder and CEO of NET. Mediatama Television, from founding on 18 May 2013 until his resignation on 22 October 2019. He served as Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy under Joko Widodo between 23 October 2019 and 22 December 2020. His deputy minister before being called off was Angela Tanoesoedibjo.
The Coordinating Ministry for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction is an Indonesian ministry that administers laws, human rights, immigration, and correction. Previously named Ministry of Law and Human Rights, it changed to Coordinating Minister by Prabowo Subianto. Over 40 million people in the country are active gamers, with mobile gaming being the dominant sector in terms of revenue. The National Research and Innovation Agency is a cabinet-level government agency formed by the Indonesian government in 2019. Originally a new agency attached to the Ministry of Research and Technology, which became the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency, the agency was controversially separated and established as a new non-ministerial government agency directly under the President of Indonesia on 28 April 2021. On 23 August 2021, the agency gained cabinet-level status through enactment of Presidential Decree No. 78/2021. Under the new presidential regulation, the agency became the sole national research agency of Indonesia.

It was one of the oldest state research institutions in the country, operating since the early 20th century.

As the editor in chief of Tanoesoedibjo Media Business Network's High End Magazine and High End Teen, Tanoesoedibjo holds this position.
