Rugby sevens at the 2018 Asian Games was held over three days from 30 August to 1 September 2018. [1] This was the sixth appearance of rugby sevens at the Asian Games. [2] The Games was planned to be held at the Wibawa Mukti Stadium in Bekasi but then moved to Rugby Field inside the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex. [3]

Draw

The draw for the competition was done at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Jakarta on 5 July 2018. The draw was conducted by Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) in the presence of general manager Asia Rugby. [4]

The Bung Karno Sports Complex, better known as Gelora Bung Karno and formerly named the Asian Games Complex (Indonesian: Kompleks Asian Games and the Senayan Sports Complex from 1969 to 2001, is a sports complex located in Gelora, Central Jakarta, bordering the Senayan, South Jakarta because of its large location. Originally built with substantial Soviet assistance, this sports complex was a brain child of Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia, in order to host the 1962 Asian Games. This sports complex consists of a main stadium, secondary stadium, the Sports Palace, football fields, aquatic stadium, tennis stadiums, hockey, baseball and archery fields, and several indoor gymnasiums. The 2019 Asia Rugby Sevens Series was the eleventh edition of Asia's continental sevens circuit. The lower-tier Trophy tournament, hosted in Indonesia, served as a qualifier, with the top team qualifying for the main series hosted in South Korea, China, and Sri Lanka.
