The South Korea national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. They sometimes take part in the Rugby World Cup Sevens, and have competed in the Hong Kong Sevens since the 1980s. [1]
South Korea made their Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, they had qualified the previous year after defeating Hong Kong at the 2019 Asia Rugby Sevens Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Incheon. [2] [3]

The Hong Kong Sevens is a rugby sevens tournament held annually in Hong Kong on a weekend in late March or early April. Considered the premier tournament on the World Rugby Sevens Series competition, the Hong Kong Sevens is currently the seventh tournament on the World Series calendar. The tournament spans three days, beginning on a Friday and concluding on Sunday. The tournament is organised each year by the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 respectively. The latest Hong Kong Rugby Sevens is being held on Friday 5 April, Saturday 6 April, Sunday 7 April 2024.
The Fiji national rugby sevens team has competed in the World Rugby Sevens Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Olympics. Fiji won the gold medal in the inaugural rugby sevens at the Summer Olympics in 2016 in Brazil, the country's first Olympic medal in any event, and repeated as Olympic champions in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, defeating New Zealand. Thus Fiji is the sole nation to have won mens Olympic gold in the sport. They are the only country in the world to have won the Sevens Treble, the three major achievements in Sevens. They have won multiple World Rugby Sevens Series and Rugby World Cup Sevens.
The Hong Kong national rugby union team, nicknamed the Dragons, has made the qualifying rounds of the Rugby World Cup. Rugby union in Hong Kong is administered by the Hong Kong Rugby Union since 1952, and successfully competes annually in the Asia Rugby Championship.
Rugby union in China is a growing sport; however, it is still not overly popular. China became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1997 and as of 1 July 2019, its women's XV side was ranked 24th and its men's XV side 80th in the world. Neither the women's team nor the men's team has yet qualified for a Women's Rugby World Cup or a men's Rugby World Cup. Twelve teams qualified for men's rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Japan automatically qualified as host, with the top four teams of the 2018–19 World Rugby Sevens Series securing their spots. Afterwards, qualification was determined with each of the six continental confederations determining a representative, and the remaining qualification spot determined through an international sevens tournament.

The 2019 Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Olympic Qualifying Tournament was held on 9–10 November at Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center Central Stadium in Guangzhou. Japan, as host, prequalified for the Olympic Games, and did not take part in this competition. The champion of the tournament, hosts China, qualify for the Asian continental berth in the 2020 Summer Olympics. The second and third-placed teams, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan, qualify to take part in a 2020 Olympic repechage tournament for one of two final berths in Tokyo.
The 2019 Dubai Sevens was the first tournament within the 2019–20 World Rugby Sevens Series and was the 20th international edition and the 50th overall of the Dubai Sevens since it began in 1970. It was held on 5–7 December 2019 at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The 2019 Asia Rugby Sevens Olympic Qualifying Tournament is a rugby sevens tournament scheduled to be held in Incheon on the 23-24 November 2019. This tournament serves as the 2020 Olympic Rugby Sevens regional qualifier, the winner of the tournament will collect direct qualification to the 2020 Summer Olympics, whilst the runner-up and third place finisher will advance to the Olympic repechage tournament.
