Malta hosted the Rugby Europe Conference 2 finals in 2022. [2]
On 13 May 2023 they took part in the Jed-Forest Sevens in Scotland. A spokesman said: [3]
The Malta Rugby Football Union thanks Jed-Forest RFC for the opportunity to take part in one of the most prestigious rugby sevens tournaments in Scotland. It will be our pleasure and honour to line up alongside some of the best club sides in Scotland such as the oldest rugby club Edinburgh Accies and others. The tournament is a perfect lead up to Malta’s preparation for the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) which will take place later this month – we look forward to a stellar rugby Saturday at Jed-Forest.
The Malta national sevens side was beaten in Round 1 by Hawick RFC. Hawick won the match 20-14. [4]

Hawick Rugby Football Club is an semi-pro rugby union side, currently playing in the Scottish Premiership and Border League. The club was founded in 1885 and are based at Mansfield Park at Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

The Borders Sevens Circuit is a series of rugby sevens tournaments held annually in the Scottish Borders. Originally the circuit consisted of 5 tournaments; Langholm Sevens being the last added in 1908. It is the oldest Sevens circuit in the world; the first Sevens tournament outside Scotland - bar two single Sevens matches in Chorley, England in 1888 and 1889 - was held in the Scottish expatriate city of Dunedin in New Zealand in 1889 and there was no other Sevens tournament clusters elsewhere.

Colin Gregor is a retired Scottish rugby union player. He was the captain of the Scotland 7s team from 2009 to 2014. He was the eighth player, and first Scot, to score over 1,000 points on the IRB Sevens World Series. He retired as the most capped sevens player in Scottish history, having played in 58 IRB Sevens World Series tournaments, three Sevens World Cups and two Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, 2006 and at Glasgow 2014 where he was captain. He played as a Scrum-half or Fly-half.
Langholm Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Langholm RFC, in Langholm, Scotland. The Langholm Sevens was the last of the Border Sevens tournaments to be instated in 1908.
