The Chile national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. They have made three appearances at the Rugby World Cup Sevens; they also compete in the Pan American Games, and have featured in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

History

In the 2008 USA Sevens they lost to Australia 24-14 in the Shield finals. In preparation for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens they toured Fiji, a month before the World Cup. [1] Chile was invited to the 2021 World Rugby Sevens Series that was held in Canada, in Vancouver and Edmonton. [2]

They have participated at two Olympic repechage tournaments, in 2016 and 2020, [3] but were unsuccessful in qualifying for the Olympics on both occasions.

Chile qualified for the 2024 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series in Dubai. In the first round of the series, they defeated Germany in the semi-finals before losing out to Kenya in the Cup final to finish as runners-up. [4] [5] They finished third overall in the Challenger series and qualified for the SVNS promotion and relegation play-off competition at the 2024 Spain Sevens. [6] [7]

The Portugal national rugby sevens team played for the first time in 1992, at the Catania Sevens, World Cup 1993 European Qualifier. The team plays in competitions such as the World Sevens Series, the European Sevens Grand Prix Series and the Rugby World Cup Sevens. Portugal has a record of eight European titles—in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011—although Portugal has not made the semifinals since 2012. Pedro Leal and Gonçalo Foro are two notable sevens players.

The German national rugby sevens team competes in the top-level European sevens competition, the Sevens Grand Prix Series. In 2012, Germany finished eleventh out of twelve teams and avoided relegation. The team also unsuccessfully took part in the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifying tournament in Moscow in July 2012.

The Hong Kong national rugby sevens team is a regular participant in the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The team's greatest achievements include winning the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and winning the Asian Sevens Series in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2022.

The Uganda national rugby sevens team won the 2022 Africa Men's 7s, which were World Cup and Commonwealth Games qualifiers.

Thailand's women's national rugby sevens team competes at the Asian Games and other sevens tournaments. They featured in the inaugural 2009 Women's Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai.

The Argentina women's national rugby sevens team has been the second most successful team in South America after Brazil. At the CONSUR Women's Sevens, Argentina has been runner-up three times.

The Belgium women's national rugby sevens team are a national sporting side of Belgium, representing them at Rugby sevens.

The Mexico women's national rugby union sevens team are a national sporting side that represents Mexico in Rugby sevens.

The Uganda women's national rugby sevens team represents Uganda in international rugby sevens. They compete annually in the Africa Women's Sevens, and have made an appearance in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens at the inaugural women's tournament.

The Poland women's national rugby sevens team represents Poland in rugby sevens. They compete in the Rugby Europe Women's Sevens.

The World Rugby Sevens Challenger is an annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national teams run by World Rugby that includes men's and women's events. Sponsored by banking group HSBC, it is the second tier of competition below the SVNS. Teams on the respective men's and women's tours of the Challenger Series compete for promotion to the first tier as a core team.

The 2023–24 SVNS was the 25th annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national sevens teams, known as the World Rugby Sevens Series (SVNS). It took place between December 2023 and June 2024. The Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999.
