History

MR Hornibrook

In 1926, Manuel Hornibrook founded a construction company in Brisbane. Amongst its notable projects were the Story Bridge and William Jolly Bridge. In the 1970s, it built the Sydney Opera House. [1] [2]

AW Baulderstone

In 1946, Albert (Bert) William Baulderstone (born on 18 June 1906 in Longwood, Adelaide Hills) founded a construction company in Adelaide, South Australia. In 1984, Societe Auxiliaire d'Entreprises became a major shareholder in AW Baulderstone. [1] [2]

Baulderstone Hornibrook

In 1985 the two companies merged to form Baulderstone Hornibrook, with operations expanded overseas into Asia. In 1993 it was acquired by Bilfinger Berger. [1] [2] In October 2008 it was rebranded as Baulderstone. [3] In December 2010 it was included in the sale of Bilfinger Berger Australia to Lendlease. [4] The brand was retired in 2013 as part of a restructure of Lendlease's construction business units. [5] [6]

The Bolte Bridge is a large twin cantilever road bridge in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The Bolte Bridge carries a total of eight lanes of traffic – four lanes northbound and four lanes southbound. While officially only 490 metres in length, the actual structure appears much longer as it forms part of a 5 kilometre elevated roadway between Flemington Road and the West Gate Freeway. It spans the Yarra River and Victoria Harbour in the Docklands precinct to the west of the Melbourne CBD. It forms part of the CityLink system of toll roads that connects the Tullamarine Freeway from the northern suburbs with the West Gate Freeway and the Domain and Burnley tunnels to the Monash Freeway and the south eastern suburbs. It is named after Victoria's 38th and longest-serving Premier, Sir Henry Bolte.

The tunnel was progressively opened to traffic from late on 15 March 2010 until just after midnight on 16 March 2010. It was completely open by 12:02 am.

Cairns Central Shopping Centre is in Cairns City, Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia. It is Cairns' biggest shopping centre. The centre was opened in late 1997 and is the second multi-story shopping centre in northern Queensland. The shopping centre is built over the Cairns railway station, which is incorporated with the centre. Pedestrian access to the station is through the car park on the bottom floor, or a pedestrian walkway on the second floor. Construction of the shopping centre was delayed temporarily due to damage suffered from Tropical Cyclone Justin in early 1997.

The M5 Legacy Way is a 4.6 kilometres (2.9 mi) long tunnel linking the Western Freeway at Toowong and the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. The project consisted of two bored tunnels carrying two motorway grade lanes of traffic in each direction. It opened on 25 June 2015 and is the fourth of five components of Brisbane City Council's TransApex Project. The tunnels will be tolled for approximately 45 years.

Sir Manuel Richard Hornibrook OBE was an Australian builder and civil engineer. He founded the firm M R Hornibrook Pty Ltd that after merger with Baulderstone became one of the largest Australian civil engineering firms. Known as "MR", Hornibrook was knighted in 1960. He was highly respected and a builder of bridges across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Papua New Guinea as well as other major projects including Stages 2 and 3 of the Sydney Opera House.

Valemus was a holding company that owned the Australian assets of Bilfinger.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">North–South Motorway</span> Motorway in Adelaide, South Australia

The North–South Motorway is a partially complete motorway traversing the inner western suburbs of Adelaide, from Waterloo Corner in the north to Bedford Park in the south. Progressively constructed in stages since 2010, once complete it will replace the adjacent South Road as Adelaide's main north–south roadway. It will form the central section of the North–South Corridor, being flanked north and south by the Northern Expressway and Southern Expressway, respectively. It is designated part of route M2.
