Bayou Chicot is an unincorporated community in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is located due north of Ville Platte.
Bayou Chicot is home to Chicot State Park, which features the largest man-made lake in the state. Also in the community is Mountain Bayou Lake Boy Scout Camp, which was established in 1980, and is now a well known camp throughout the states of Louisiana and Texas.
This location was the site of the first Baptist church in the state which was organized west of the Mississippi River. [1] On November 13, 1812, Calvary Baptist church named Joseph Willis, an African American missionary as pastor. [2] He had been a preacher to the Opelousa Indians and other ethnic groups of the district.
Bayou Chicot also has a volunteer fire department controlled by the Ward Five Fire District. The people in this area have been known to be called stump jumpers due to the name chicot which means stump.
Public schools in Evangeline Parish are operated by the Evangeline Parish School Board. Bayou Chicot Elementary School is located in the community of Bayou Chicot and serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth. Area high school students attend Pine Prairie High School in Pine Prairie.

It lies on the south bank of the Red River in almost the exact geographic center of the state. Kisatchie National Forest, the only National forest in Louisiana, United States, is located in the forested piney hills and hardwood bottoms of seven central and northern parishes. It is part of the Cenozoic uplands and has large areas of longleaf pine forests. It is one of the largest pieces of natural landscape in Louisiana, with some 604,000 acres (2,440 km2) of public land, more than half of which is vital longleaf pine and flatwoods vegetation. These support many rare plant and animal species. There are also rare habitats, such as hillside seepage bogs and calcareous prairies. The forest also contains and provides a buffer for the Kisatchie Hills Wilderness, a nationally designated wilderness area that contributes to protecting biodiversity of the coastal plain region of the United States.

Kepler Lake is a reservoir located in Northwest Louisiana, USA. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) from Castor, 4 miles (6.4 km) from Jamestown, 6 miles (9.7 km) from Bienville and about 12 miles (19 km) from Gibsland, Louisiana. Kepler is an open lake available for fishing and boating. Kepler's spillway drains into Black Lake Bayou which drains into Black Lake in Natchitoches Parish. Piney Woods Road is the only road that crosses Kepler. The Kepler spillway is located on the south side of the lake. Kepler has several boat launches and landings used for camping. Construction of the spillway was completed in 1958.

Louisiana Highway 106 is a state highway located primarily in Evangeline Parish that runs 24.2 miles (38.9 km) in a west–east direction from LA 10 east of Oakdale to LA 29 south of Bunkie. Along the way, LA 106 passes through the towns of Pine Prairie and St. Landry and intersects U.S. Highway 167. Near the east end of its route, LA 106 passes through an interchange with Interstate 49 (I-49) between Opelousas and Alexandria in the southwest corner of Avoyelles Parish.
