Be Ordinary is the first EP by South Korean singer-songwriter Hwang Chi-yeul, his first studio album in 10 years, released on 13 June 2017, since his debut album Five Senses in 2007. [1]
In March 2017, singer Hwang Chi-yeul said during an interview:
"The exact release date hasn't been decided yet, but maybe in June? I think it might be unveiled before summer. There will be a song that I wrote on the new album, some of the tracks will be written by others though." [2]
In June 2017 after the EP's release, Hwang said during an interview with KBS World Radio:
"A song I self-wrote is on my album for the first time. It's track 7, "Alone" and it's a special track for me. I lived on a rooftop when I wrote that song so I was sitting out in the shade on my rooftop when I wrote the lyrics. I thought the emotion of love was so limiting so I watched movies like "If Only" and "The Notebook" to stir up more emotions and wrote the lyrics. That's why this song is so special to me. It's my first album so I was too shy to put it as track 1 so I put it as track 7.", [3]
He explains what "A Daily Song" is about:
"It's a song recalling memories so yes, I do have similar memories. It could be about love, my parents, a childhood incident. Music has the power to bring back memories from when you were young. So I too remember things from my past...when I write songs, of course my experiences are included. I also use other people's stories or movies.", [3]
Be Ordinary describes nearly every aspect of his ordinary everyday life as a musician for the past 10 years he remained unknown. His last release as a studio full-length album was in 2007 with his album Five Senses. Be Ordinary is his first EP.
Before the EP's release, Be Ordinary, a teaser video, [4] was released on 9 June 2017. The EP and its official music video, [5] were released on 13 June 2017 and EP consists of seven tracks with many different genres. He wrote the lyrics for the last song, "Alone". [6]
On 24 May 2017, Hwang performed the song "A Daily Song" live for the first time on episode 16 of I Can See Your Voice, Season 4, that was broadcast on 15 June 2017 on Mnet. [7]
On 23 June 2017, "A Daily Song" took first place in the fourth week of June 2017 on KBS Music Bank . The nominees for the Music Bank K-Chart first place were "A Daily Song" by Hwang Chi-yeul and "Untitled, 2014" by G-Dragon. [8]
On 24–25 June 2017, Hwang held his first concert, Yolo Con at the Olympic Park in Seoul and performed his new songs from the EP live. [9]
Hwang is scheduled to hold his solo showcase on 30 July 2017 in Taipei, [10] and in concert on 10–11 August 2017 in Toronto. [11]
Hwang occasionally performs songs from the EP acoustically on a live streaming channel V LIVE. [12]

Kim Dong-ryul is a South Korean pop singer-songwriter. He composes, arranges, writes lyrics, produces, and performs his own music. He has been active since 1993.
Kim Tae-woo is a South Korean singer, best known as the lead vocalist of boy band g.o.d. He debuted in 1999 as a member of g.o.d and continued as a solo artist after the group went on hiatus in 2006. In addition to his solo career, Kim has also sung the OSTs of award-winning popular dramas and performed in musicals.
Park Ji-yeon, better known by her stage name Gummy (거미), is a South Korean singer. She debuted in 2003 with the album Like Them and has since become known for her soundtrack appearances.
Chocolat, commonly stylized as ChoColat, was a South Korean girl group created by Paramount Music in 2011. The group's name stems from the idea that each member is reminiscent of a different type of chocolate. The name of the group was initially going to be "Chocolate", but there was already a group with that name, so Paramount Music decided to use the French word chocolat instead. The group consists of total of five of former members: Jaeyoon, Min Soa, Juliane, Tia and Melanie, The group became inactive in 2013. Melanie confirmed in an interview that the group members' contracts had concluded in February 2017 and the group had disbanded.
Real is the third Korean-language extended play (EP) by South Korean singer-songwriter IU. It was released and distributed by LOEN Entertainment on December 9, 2010. The special edition of the album was sold out during pre-order, which revealed the high anticipation for the album. IU collaborated with some of the top vocalists and producers in South Korea such as Yoon Jong-shin, Kim Hyeong-seok, Lee Min-soo, Kim Eana, Shinsadong Tiger, and Choi Gap-won to work on the album.

The 31st Golden Disc Awards ceremony was held on January 13–14, 2017. The JTBC network broadcast the show from the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan. Hwang Chi-yeul, Seohyun and Jung Yong-hwa served as hosts on the first day, with Kang So-ra and Sung Si-kyung on the second.
