Beautiful View is the seventh studio album released by Australian singer Wendy Matthews released by BMG in Australia on 7 May 2001. It yielded three singles "Free", "Beautiful View" and "Like the Sun".

Contents

Matthews wrote the majority of the album on the north coast of New South Wales, Australia. She chose the name "Beautiful View" for the album because she wanted to "link it [the album] to this special place where I can look to the islands in winter and watch the whales frolicking in the ocean." [1]

It is an album of cover songs chosen by Matthews and the album's producer, Michael Szumowski. Matthews enjoyed recording this album and felt the songs came together naturally, and felt she broke down some personal barriers. The album yielded only one single, "All I Need".

"Boy " is a song by American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey, taken from her ninth studio album, Charmbracelet (2002). It was written by Carey, Justin Smith, Norman Whitfield and Cameron Giles, and produced by the former and Just Blaze. The song was released as the album's second single on March 24, 2003. Initially, "The One" had been chosen as the second single from the album, however, halfway through the filming of a music video for it, the singer decided to release "Boy " instead. Considered by Carey as one of her favorites, the track is a reworked version of rapper Cam'ron's song "Oh Boy" released earlier that year.

Matthews travelled to Canada with her mother for the album to discover their heritage, which influences the album. Matthews states the album "overall, has vulnerability. .. [it is] really heart on your sleeve stuff". The album won Matthews the "Best Female Artist" award at the ARIA Awards in 1993, where the album was also nominated for "Album of the Year". The Fifth Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards was held on 25 March 1991 at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre in Sydney. There were live performances but the awards were not televised and the ceremony was noted for its three-hours plus length with Gary Morris, manager of Midnight Oil providing a 20-minute acceptance speech.

The Witness Tree debuted inside the Australian ARIA Albums Chart top twenty, but sales fell considerably short of those of Matthews's 1992 album Lily. The album was nominated for an ARIA Award in 1995 for "Best Adult Contemporary Album" and yielded three singles; "Standing Strong", "Love Will Keep Me Alive" and "Say a Prayer".
