Pakistan and Belarus initiated joint ventures (JVs) in the textile, pharmaceutical and lighting solution industries while sharing technological expertise with each other. [1]
Pakistan's imports from Belarus stood at $42.65 million which mainly consisted of tractors (62.04%), artificial filament yarn (13.01%) and rubber tires (8.06%). [2] Belarus has lauded Pakistan's role and efforts in bringing peace and stability to the world by countering terrorism and offered his country's full support in this fight. [3]
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited Pakistan on 29 May 2015 on a two-day state visit and again on 4 October 2016. [4] President Lukashenko held meetings with Mamnoon Hussain and Nawaz Sharif during the course of his visit, and a number of important agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed between the two countries. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan met the President Lukashenko on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on June 14, 2019. Both heads of state agreed to hold more political exchanges and increase economic, commercial and investment cooperation. [7]
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko paid a three day visit to Pakistan from 25-28 November 2024. President Lukashenko was welcomed at Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by key cabinet ministers. Belarusian business representatives participated in a business forum where agreements worth $17 million were signed, according to Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Mikhail Myatlikov. Pakistan and Belarus inked a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen their multifaceted ties particularly in the areas of trade, commerce, education and culture. [12]
Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician and businessman who served as the prime minister of Pakistan for three non-consecutive terms. He is the longest-serving prime minister of Pakistan, having served a total of more than 9 years across three tenures. Each term has ended in his ousting.
The Pakistan Muslim League (N) abbreviated as PML (N), (Urdu: پاکستان مسلم لیگ (ن)) is a centre-right, conservative liberal political party in Pakistan. It is currently the third-largest party in the Senate and the largest in the National Assembly. The party was founded in 1993, when a number of prominent conservative politicians in the country joined hands after the dissolution of Islamic Democratic Alliance, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The party's platform is generally conservative, which involves supporting free markets, deregulation, lower taxes and private ownership. Although the party historically supported social conservatism, in recent years, the party's political ideology and platform has become more liberal on social and cultural issues; however, members have been accused of using Islamist populist rhetoric. Alongside the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People's Party (PPP), it is one of the three major political parties of the country.
The prime minister of Pakistan is the head of government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Executive authority is vested in the prime minister and his chosen cabinet, despite the president of Pakistan serving as the nominal head of executive. The prime minister is often the leader of the party or the coalition with a majority in the lower house of the Parliament of Pakistan, the National Assembly where he serves as Leader of the House. Prime minister holds office by virtue of their ability to command the confidence of the National Assembly. The prime minister is designated as the "chief executive of the Islamic Republic".
Muhammad Ishaq Dar is a Pakistani accountant and politician who currently serves as 3rd Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan since 28 April 2024, he also had the portfolio of Foreign Minister of Pakistan since 11 March 2024.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is a Pakistani politician and businessman who served as the 21st prime minister of Pakistan from August 2017 to May 2018. He also currently leads Awaam Pakistan (AP) as its chairman. Abbasi was the senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), and had been the secretary-general of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an anti-PTI coalition of political parties in Pakistan. He had been a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from October 2018 to August 2023 and previously served as a member of the National Assembly for 8 non-consecutive terms since 1988.
Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician and businessman who is currently serving as the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan since March 2024, having previously served in the post from April 2022 to August 2023. He has also served as the president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N). Previously, he served as the chief minister of Punjab three times, making him the longest-serving chief minister of Punjab.
The Soviet Union and Pakistan first established the diplomatic and bilateral relations on 1 May 1948.
Pakistan formally consummated diplomatic ties with Kyrgyzstan on May 10, 1992, although relations were initially founded on December 20, 1991, shortly after Kyrgyzstan became independent of the Soviet Union. Consequently, Pakistan opened its diplomatic outpost in Bishkek in 1995.
Pakistan–Sri Lanka relations refer to bilateral relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Both countries are located in South Asia. The earliest proper diplomatic and trade contacts between Pakistan and Sri Lanka date back as early as 1948. In 2013, the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif said that there were strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Bosnia and Herzegovina–Pakistan relations are the foreign relations between Pakistan and Bosnia. Pakistan recognised the independence of Bosnia from Yugoslavia in 1992, and the two established diplomatic relations. Bosnia has an embassy in Islamabad. Pakistan has an embassy in Sarajevo.
Extremely strong and cordial relations exist between Bahrain and Pakistan. Bahrain maintains an embassy in Islamabad and a Consulate-General in Karachi, whilst Pakistan maintains an embassy in Manama. Both countries are members of the OIC and of the G 77.
Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician, businessman, and the eldest son of current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from September 2018 to April 2022, and resumed this role on 20 October 2022 and continued until the dissolution of the assembly. He briefly held the position of Chief Minister of Punjab from 30 April 2022 to 26 July 2022. His tenure as a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab spanned from August 2018 to January 2023. Prior to this, he was a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from June 2008 to May 2018.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif is a Pakistani politician, currently serving as the 20th Chief Minister of Punjab, in office since 26 February 2024. She is the daughter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and her initial involvement in public life was through her family’s philanthropic organisations. However, her political career began in earnest in 2012 when she took charge of the election campaign for the 2013 general elections. Following the elections, she was appointed as the Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in 2013. Despite her active role, she resigned from the position in 2014 after her appointment was legally challenged in the Lahore High Court.
The Sharif family is the most prominent political family in Pakistan and is based in Lahore. The Sharif Family are Punjabi-speaking Kashmiris with their origin in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir and settled in Punjab in the late 20th century.
Marriyum Aurangzeb is a Pakistani politician who currently serves as Senior Minister in the Government of Punjab, in office since March 2024.
The Green Line is an express train operated daily by Pakistan Railways between Karachi and Islamabad. It is the flagship rail of the organization and has the highest passage priority. The train takes approximately 21 hours to cover a published distance of 1,521 kilometres (945 mi), traveling along a stretch of the Karachi–Peshawar Railway Line. It was inaugurated by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on 15 May 2015 at Islamabad railway station.
Qamar Javed Bajwa is a retired Pakistani army general who served as the tenth chief of the army staff of Pakistan from 29 November 2016 to 29 November 2022. In 2018 he was ranked 68th in the Forbes list of the World's Most Powerful People.
In April 2022, a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan led to his removal as the prime minister of Pakistan. Based largely on the Westminster system of legislature, the prime minister commands confidence of the majority of the lower house of Parliament, the National Assembly of Pakistan, under clause (2A) of Article 91 of the Constitution. Numerous opposition parties joined forces to file the motion of no confidence against Imran Khan in the National Assembly. It ultimately led to the removal of Khan from office as a majority passed the motion in the Lower House.
Lettergate is an American-Pakistani political affair set off by a conversation at a farewell lunch for Asad Majeed Khan, then-Pakistani ambassador to the United States, on 7 March 2022 at Khan's official residence known as the Pakistan House. A diplomatic telegram was sent by Ambassador Khan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs based on the notes taken by a note-taker from the embassy of Pakistan based in Washington, D.C. The telegram allegedly stated that in the course of the meeting, the United States had expressed a desire to the government of Pakistan for prime minister Imran Khan to be removed from office because of his neutral stance on the war between Russia and Ukraine and refusal to back the Ukrainians, promising warmer relations if Pakistan agrees while threatening isolation if it does not. The lunch was attended by US officials including then US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Secretary Lesslie Viguerie. The Pakistani diplomats attending the lunch meeting included Deputy Chief of Mission Syed Naveed Bokhari and the defence attaché.
