Belarus participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Marsa, Malta. The Belarusian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). Before Junior Eurovision

National final

On 6 March 2014, BTRC announced that a national final would be held to select Belarus' entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014. A submission period for interested artists was opened and lasted until 9 June 2014. [5] After the deadline passed, 48 applications were received by the broadcaster. [6] A professional jury selected ten artists and songs from the applicants to proceed to the televised national final, which were announced on 17 June 2014. [6] [7]

Final

The final took place on 29 August 2014 at the studio 600 in Minsk, hosted by Teo, Belarus' 2014 Eurovision contestant, and Ilya Volkov, Belarus' 2013 Junior Eurovision contestant. [7]

The equal combination of votes from a professional jury and the votes from the public resulted in a tie between "Sokal" performed by Nadezhda Misyakova, "Mamina lyubov" performed by Ksenia & Pavel Lashchevsky and "Geta moy lios" performed by Anna Zaitseva. The tie was resolved by the jury with "Sokal" by Nadezhda Misyakova being announced as the winner of the competition and was thus selected as Belarus' entry in Marsa. [3] [4] The members of the jury were Gennadiy Markevich, Tatyana Parhamovich, Irina Dorofeeva, Lyudmila Borodina, Nadezhda Vasilchenko, Olga Vorobyeva, Tatyana Yakusheva, Elena Treschinskaya and Eduard Zartisky.

In addition to the performances from the competitors, the show featured guest performances by Olga Shamrova' ballet, Olga Satsiuk, Egor Volchek and Lidiya Zablotskaya.

Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest

Belarus has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 16 times since making its debut in 2004. The country's first appearance in a final was in 2007, with the song "Work Your Magic" performed by Dmitry Koldun, placing sixth. This remains Belarus' only top ten placement. Belarus also qualified for the final in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2019.

Belarus in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

The participation of Belarus in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest first began at the inaugural Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Belarusian Television and Radio Company (BTRC) a member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have been responsible for the selection process of their participants since their debut. The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2003 contest was Volha Satsiuk with the song "Tantsuy", which finished in fourth place out of sixteen participating entries, achieving a score of one hundred and three points. Belarus is one of two countries to have never missed an edition of the contest, the other one being the Netherlands, and have won twice in 2005 and 2007. They are also one of the two countries to have participated first in Junior Eurovision and then in the adult one. They hosted the contest at the Minsk-Arena in 2010 and again in 2018.

Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Belarusian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). Teo represented Belarus with the self-composed song "Cheesecake" with lyrics by Dmitry Novik. The song qualified from the second semi-final to compete in the final. Belarus placed 16th in the final, scoring 43 points.

Eurovision Young Dancers 2015

The Eurovision Young Dancers 2015 was the fourteenth edition of the Eurovision Young Dancers competition. The final was held in the New Theatre in Plzeň, Czech Republic on 19 June 2015. This was the first time that the Czech national broadcaster, Česká televize (ČT), had organised a Eurovision event. The event is aimed at young dancers aged between 16 and 21, competing in modern dances, be it solo or in couples, as long as they were not professionally engaged. Ten countries participated in the 2015 contest; with Albania and Malta making their début; Slovakia returning after an eighteen-year break; and Armenia, Belarus, and Ukraine withdrawing.

Armenia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 which took place on 15 November 2014, in Marsa, Malta. The Armenian broadcaster Armenia 1 (ARMTV) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. The Armenian entry was selected through a national final held on 14 September 2014. Betty and her song "People of the Sun" was chosen to represent the nation in Marsa, Malta.

The Belarusian entry was selected through a national final, organised by Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). The final was held on 4 October 2013. Ilya Volkov and his song "Poy so mnoy" won the national final, scoring 18 points.

Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Time", written by Uzari, Gerylana and Maimuna. The song was performed by the duo Uzari and Maimuna; Uzari is a singer-songwriter, while Maimuna is a violist. Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC) organised a national final in order to select the Belarusian entry for the 2015 contest. In a field of fifteen songs, "Time" performed by Uzari and Maimuna won the right to represent Belarus in Vienna, Austria. On 26 August 2016, Alexander Minyonok was selected to represent Belarus with the song "Musyka moikh pobed ".

Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Story of My Life" written by Arciom Lukjanienka. The song was performed by Naviband. The Belarusian entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine was selected through a national final organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). The national final consisted of thirteen competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from jury members made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. "Historyja majho žyccia" performed by NAVI was selected as the winner. The song's title was later translated from Belarusian to English for the Eurovision Song Contest and was titled "Story of My Life".

Belarus participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 which took place in Tbilisi, Georgia on 26 November 2017. The Belarusian entry for the 2017 contest in Tbilisi, Georgia was selected through a national final organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). A national final, which took place on 25 August 2017, saw ten competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from a jury made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. Helena Meraai won the national final by receiving the most votes from both the professional jury and televoters and she represented Belarus in Georgia with the song "I Am The One".

Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 16th annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 was the sixteenth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, organised by the Belarusian Television and Radio Company (BTRC) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It took place in the Belarusian capital city, Minsk on 25 November 2018 at the Minsk-Arena. It was the second time that the contest was held in Belarus, after it staged the 2010 edition at the same venue.

Belarus participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC) organised a national final in order to select the Belarusian entry for the 2018 contest in Lisbon, Portugal.

Belarus originally planned to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. However, due to the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Europe, the contest was cancelled.

Belarus participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Warsaw, Poland. Belarusian Television and Radio Company (BTRC) selected Arina Pehtereva with her song "Aliens" through an internal selection. She achieved 5th place with 130 points.

"Ya nauchu tebya " is a song by Belarusian band Galasy ZMesta. The song was selected by the Belarusian national broadcaster BTRC to represent Belarus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, but was rejected by the competition's organisers for having content which they believed was too political in nature. The music video was also taken down from the official Eurovision site.
