The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 was the 11th edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 30 November 2013. The venue for the contest was announced on 10 April 2013, as the Palace "Ukraine". Ukrainian broadcaster National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU) was the host broadcaster for the event. It was the second time the contest was held in Kyiv, the first being the 2009 contest. It was also the second time in the history of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that the event took place in last year's winning country, as well as the first time that the event was held in the same city twice. A total of twelve countries participated, with Macedonia and Malta making a return, and Albania, Belgium and Israel choosing to withdraw. San Marino made their debut in the contest. Cyprus was originally the thirteenth country to take part but pulled out the last minute.
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 was the 12th edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and took place, for the first time, in Malta. This was the third time that the contest was hosted by the previous year's winning country. Maltese national broadcaster PBS was the host broadcaster for the event. The final took place on 15 November 2014 and was in the Malta Shipbuilding in Marsa, near Valletta. Moira Delia, a Maltese television personality, hosted the show, marking the first time in Junior Eurovision history that there was only one presenter of the show. The interval included a performance by last year's winner Gaia Cauchi and La Voix Academy featuring Andy Shaw and Veronica Rotin.
Gaia Cauchi M.Q.R. is a Maltese singer. She represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 and won the contest with her song "The Start".
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015 was the thirteenth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and took place, for the first time, in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT was the host broadcaster for the event. The final took place on 21 November 2015 and was held at the Arena Armeec in Sofia. Poli Genova, a Bulgarian singer and former representative of Bulgaria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, hosted the show. A total of seventeen countries participated, with Australia and Ireland making their debuts. Albania and Macedonia returned after being absent since the 2012 and 2013 contests, respectively. Croatia and Cyprus withdrew after returning in the 2014 edition, while Sweden withdrew for the first time since 2008.
Federica Falzon is a Maltese mezzo-soprano singer. She represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 on home soil with the song "Diamonds", and placed 4th.
Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Warrior" written by Elton Zarb and Matt Muxu Mercieca. The song was performed by Amber. The Maltese entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria was selected through the national final Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a semi-final round and a final, held on 21 and 22 November 2014, respectively, where "Warrior" performed by Amber eventually emerged as the winning entry after scoring the most points from a five-member jury and a public televote.
Sweden selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through Lilla Melodifestivalen 2014 which consisted of eight songs. The final was held on 6 June 2014 at the Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm. Julia Kedhammar, with her song "Du är inte ensam", was chosen as the winner.
Ukraine selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through a national final which consisted of eighteen songs. The final was held on 9 August 2014 in Bukovel, Ukraine. Sympho-Nick and their song "Pryyde vesna" was chosen as the winner.
Georgia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 which took place on 15 November 2014, in Marsa, Malta. Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Lizi Pop was internally selected to represent Georgia in the contest with the song "Happy Day".
Cyprus selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 21 July 2014 it was revealed that Sophia Patsalides would represent Cyprus in the contest with the song "I pio omorfi mera".
Montenegro selected their first Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 21 August 2014 it was revealed that Maša Vujadinović and Lejla Vulić would represent Montenegro in the contest with the song "Budi dijete na jedan dan".
Armenia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 which took place on 15 November 2014, in Marsa, Malta. The Armenian broadcaster Armenia 1 (ARMTV) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. The Armenian entry was selected through a national final held on 14 September 2014. Betty and her song "People of the Sun" was chosen to represent the nation in Marsa, Malta.
Slovenia selected their first Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 16 September 2014 it was revealed that Ula Ložar would represent Slovenia after having open auditions.
Italy selected their first Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 4 September 2014 it was revealed that Vincenzo Cantiello would represent Italy with the song "Tu primo grande amore".
Russia selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 22 September 2014 it was revealed that Alisa Kozhikina would represent Russia in the contest. On 24 September 2014, it was announced that the name of her song would be "Dreamer".
San Marino selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 26 September 2014 it was revealed that The Peppermints would represent San Marino in the contest with the song "Breaking My Heart".
Serbia selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 1 October 2014 it was revealed that Emilija Đonin would represent Serbia in the contest with the song "Svet u mojim očima".
Croatia selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection. On 2 October 2014 it was revealed that Josephine Zec would represent Croatia in the contest with the song "Game Over".
Australia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest five times between 2015 and 2019. Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), was responsible for the selection process of their participants at the 2015 and 2016 contests, with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) taking over the country's participation from 2017. SBS previously broadcast every edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on a delay.
Malta participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 as the host country. The Maltese entrant for the 2016 contest in Valletta was selected through a national final, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) on 16 July 2016, while their song was selected internally. Each of the twenty participants performed covers or non-Eurovision candidate songs during the national final. Christina Magrin was declared the winner and her Junior Eurovision song "Parachute" was revealed on 27 October.
