Malta participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 as the host country. The Maltese entrant for the 2016 contest in Valletta was selected through a national final, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) on 16 July 2016, while their song was selected internally. Each of the twenty participants performed covers or non-Eurovision candidate songs during the national final. Christina Magrin was declared the winner and her Junior Eurovision song "Parachute" was revealed on 27 October.
Prior to the 2016 Contest, Malta had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest eleven times since its first entry in 2003 only opting not to participate at the 2010, 2011 and 2012 contests. Malta has won on two occasions: in 2013 when Gaia Cauchi won with the song "The Start", and again in 2015 when Destiny Chukunyere came first with "Not My Soul" when it won the contest with 185 points, breaking the previous record held by Spain for the most points ever given to a winner.
The national final took place on 16 July 2016. [1] The national final consisted of twenty competing acts participating in a televised production. Each of the 20 participants sang a song of their own choice. After all of them had performed, the jury and televoting cast their votes – each juror had a 25% weighting in the final result (so 75% overall), with the televoting also having a 25% share. The contestants were ranked from 1–20, with 1 being the best. Christina Magrin was announced as the winner of the national final. [2]

On 27 October 2016, it was revealed that Christina's song for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was revealed would be entitled "Parachute". The song, which is composed and written by Florent Boshnjaku and Matt "Muxu" Mercieca, was presented live on TVM news bulletin and it was broadcast simultaneously on tvm.com.mt.

Christina Magrin (born 7 June 2003) is a Maltese singer. She represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Valletta, Malta on 20 November 2016 with the song "Parachute". [4] Magrin studies vocal technique under her mother's guidance, who is also a passionate musician and a lecturer by profession.[ citation needed ] Her first big break was during her rendition of "Suus" (the entry for Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012), where she caught the attention of millions of TV viewers and reached over 400,000 YouTube views in just a few days.[ citation needed ] The video went viral on Albanian media, capturing the attention of the composer of the song who promised to compose a song and launch it in the Balkans.[ citation needed ]
Since her childhood years, Magrin dedicated considerable time and energy for ballet, achieving consistent results from the Royal Academy of Dance. She is currently following the Intermediate Foundation syllabus with Joanna Rummolino. For a number of years, she also took piano lessons and obtained various distinction results from the Royal Schools of Music. Magrin distinguishes herself on stage through an impressive vocal range that gives her ample versatility and an ability to sing in multiple languages. Magrin has performed in 10 languages: English, Maltese, Albanian, Serbian, French, Italian, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Spanish and Bulgarian. She has also sat for Grade 8 exams at the Trinity College London, achieving recognition from the college as the youngest student to take the grade and achieving a high mark. She was supported in this endeavour by Rachel Fabri Camilleri. [5]
Magrin's has announced that she is currently working on her debut album, which will contain her new single, "Snow Globe", which she performed during the interval act for Malta's pre-selection of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. [6]

During the opening ceremony and the running order draw which took place on 14 November 2016, Malta was drawn to perform fifth on 20 November 2016, following Russia and preceding Bulgaria. [7]
The final was broadcast on the Maltese channel TVM1.
During the press conference for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016, held in Stockholm, the Reference Group announced several changes to the voting format for the 2016 contest. Previously, points had been awarded based on a combination of 50% National juries and 50% televoting, with one more set of points also given out by a 'Kids' Jury'. However, this year, points will be awarded based on a 50/50 combination of each country's Adult and Kids' Jury, to be announced by a spokesperson. For the first time since the inauguration of the contest the voting procedure will not include a public televote. [8] Following these results, three expert jurors will also announce their points from 1–8, 10, and 12. These professional jurors are: Christer Björkman, Mads Grimstad, and Jedward. [9]

Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Warrior" written by Elton Zarb and Matt Muxu Mercieca. The song was performed by Amber. The Maltese entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria was selected through the national final Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a semi-final round and a final, held on 21 and 22 November 2014, respectively, where "Warrior" performed by Amber eventually emerged as the winning entry after scoring the most points from a five-member jury and a public televote.
Malta selected their Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014 entry through an internal selection like they did the previous year. On 20 April 2014 it was revealed that Federica Falzon would represent Malta in the contest. It was announced on 12 September 2014 that her song would be called "Diamonds".
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was the fourteenth edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which took place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta, Malta. This was the second time that Malta have hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, their first being in 2014. Jon Ola Sand was appointed as the Executive Supervisor for the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, following the dismissal of the former supervisor, Vladislav Yakovlev.
Ireland participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Irish broadcaster TG4 was responsible for organising their entry for the contest through a national selection show entitled Junior Eurovision Éire. The national final took place on 6 November 2016, while the semi-finals took place between 9–30 October. This was Ireland's second appearance at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Belarus participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The Belarusian entry for the 2016 contest in Valletta, Malta was selected through a national final organised by the Belarusian broadcaster National State Television and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus (BTRC). A national final of ten competing acts participated in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from jury members made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. On 26 August 2016, Alexander Minyonok was selected to represent Belarus with the song "Musyka moikh pobed ".
Albania participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Besoj" written by Adrian Hila and Pandi Laço. The song was performed by Klesta Quehaja. The Albanian entry for the 2016 contest in Valletta, Malta was selected through a national final organised by the Albanian broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH). The national final consisted of fourteen competing acts participating in a televised production where the winner was determined by 100% votes of jury members made up of music professionals. Klesta Qehaja won the Festivali 52 i Këngës për Fëmijë with the song "Besoj", on 1 June 2016.
Russia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Russian broadcaster Russia-1, owned by the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Sofia Fisenko won the national final on 16 August 2016 with the song "Zhivaya voda". On 6 October, the Russian organisation team opted to change the name of the entrant to Water of Life Project, with the song also changing to "Water of Life".
Poland participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Polish broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. A national final of nine competing acts participated in a televised production where the winner was determined by a 50/50 combination of votes from jury members made up of music professionals and a public telephone vote. On 15 October 2016, Olivia Wieczorek was selected to represent Poland with the song "Nie zapomnij".
The Netherlands participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place in Valletta, Malta on 20 November 2016. The Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS, was responsible for the organisation of their representative at the contest. The band, Kisses, a trio consisting of three girls: Kymora, Stefania and Sterre, were chosen internally by the Dutch broadcaster on 27 May 2016. Kisses performed their song "Kisses and Dancin'".
North Macedonia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta, under the provisional reference of "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia". The Macedonian broadcaster Macedonian Radio Television (MRT) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Martija Stanojković was internally selected to represent North Macedonia with the song "Love Will Lead Our Way".
Italy participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Italian broadcaster Rai Gulp, which is a channel owned by Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Fiamma Boccia was internally selected to represent Italy with the song "Cara Mamma ". Italy placed third in the contest with 209 points.
Armenia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Armenian broadcaster Armenian Public Television (ARMTV) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Anahit Adamyan and Mary Vardanyan were internally selected to represent Armenia with the song "Tarber".
Ukraine participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The Ukrainian entrant for the 2016 contest in Valletta, Malta was selected through a national selection, organised by the Ukrainian broadcaster National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU). The semi-final took place on 13 August 2016, while the final took place on 10 September 2016. The winner was Sofia Rol with the song "Planet Craves For Love".
Cyprus participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. George Michaelides was internally selected to represent Cyprus with the song "Dance Floor". Cyprus placed 16th with 27 points.
Georgia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Mariam Mamadashvili was internally selected to represent Georgia with the song "Mzeo". Georgia won the contest with 239 points.
Australia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Alexa Curtis was internally selected to represent Australia with the song "We Are".
Serbia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. Dunja Jeličić was internally selected to represent Serbia with the song "U la la la".
Israel participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which took place on 20 November 2016, in Valletta, Malta. The Israeli broadcaster Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA) was responsible for organising their entry for the contest. This was Israel's second appearance at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Breathlessly" written by Philip Vella, Sean Vella and Gerard James Borg. The song was performed by Claudia Faniello. The Maltese entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine was selected through the national final Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2017, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a final, held on 18 February 2017, where "Breathlessly" performed by Claudia Faniello eventually emerged as the winning entry after gaining 26% of the public televote.
Malta participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021, held in Paris, France. Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) was responsible for the country's participation in the contest, and organized a national final to select the Maltese entry.
