Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognise Belarus after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Pakistan maintains an embassy in Minsk; Belarus maintains an embassy in Islamabad.

Economic relations

Pakistan and Belarus initiated joint ventures (JVs) in the textile, pharmaceutical and lighting solution industries while sharing technological expertise with each other.[ citation needed ]

Pakistan's imports from Belarus stood at $42.65 million which mainly consisted of tractors (62.04%), artificial filament yarn (13.01%) and rubber tires (8.06%). [1] Belarus has lauded Pakistan's role and efforts in bringing peace and stability to the world by countering terrorism and offered his country's full support in this fight. [2]

State visits

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited Pakistan on 29 May 2015 on a two-day state visit and again on 4 October 2016. [3] President Lukashenko held meetings with Mamnoon Hussain and Nawaz Sharif during the course of his visit, and a number of important agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed between the two countries. [4]

On 11 August 2015, the Prime Minister of Pakistan conducted a two-day state visit to Belarus. [5]

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan met the President Lukashenko on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on June 14, 2019. Both heads of state agreed to hold more political exchanges and increase economic, commercial and investment cooperation. [6]

Agreements

Pakistan and Belarus inked a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen their multifaceted ties particularly in the areas of trade, commerce, education and culture. [7]

It is currently the third-largest party in the Senate. The party was founded in 1993, when a number of prominent conservative politicians in the country joined hands after the dissolution of Islamic Democratic Alliance, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The party's platform is generally conservative, which involves supporting free markets, deregulation, lower taxes and private ownership. Although the party historically supported social conservatism, in recent years, the party’s political ideology and platform has become more liberal on social and cultural issues. Alongside the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), it is one of the three major political parties of the country.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is a Pakistani politician and businessman who served as the 21st prime minister of Pakistan from August 2017 to May 2018. Abbasi is the senior vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), and secretary-general of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an anti-PTI coalition of political parties in Pakistan. He has been a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since October 2018. Previously, he served as a member of the National Assembly for 8 non—consecutive terms since 1988.

China–Pakistan relations, also referred to as Chinese-Pakistani relations or Sino–Pakistani relations, refers to the bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People's Republic of China (PRC). Formal relations between China and Pakistan were established in 1950, when the Dominion of Pakistan was among the first countries to sever diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (ROC) government in favour of recognizing the PRC as the legitimate "China". Since then, relations between the two countries have been extremely cordial for more than half a century, which are influenced by their similar geopolitical interests. Both countries have placed considerable importance on the maintenance of a "special relationship" between them, and their regular exchanges of high-level visits have culminated in the establishment of various cooperative measures. China has provided economic, technical, and military assistance to Pakistan; both sides regard each other as close strategic allies.

Pakistan–Turkey relations are the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkey. Pakistan has an embassy in Ankara, a Consulate-General in Istanbul and an honorary consulate in İzmir whereas, Turkey has an embassy in Islamabad, a Consulate-General in Karachi and Lahore and honorary consulates in Peshawar, Sialkot and Faisalabad. As of 2016, in a joint communique, Pakistan and Turkey plan to strengthen their close ties into a strategic partnership.

Azerbaijan–Pakistan relations refer to bilaterial relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Pakistan has an embassy in Baku and Azerbaijan has an embassy in Islamabad. Both countries are enhancing contact between their respective capitals. The two nations are considered "strategic partners".

The Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic recognized de facto the Islamic Republic of Iran in February 1979, and Belarus and Iran established de jure diplomatic relations in 1992. Belarus has an embassy in Tehran. Iran has an embassy in Minsk.

Malta–Pakistan relations are the bilateral relations between Malta and Pakistan. Neither country has a resident ambassador. Pakistan is concurrently accredited to Malta through its embassy in Tunis with an Honorary Consulate in Attard (Malta) since September 2015. Both countries are full members of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Belarus does not have an embassy in Baghdad, but it does maintain a consulate in Erbil. Iraq has an embassy in Minsk. The last Ambassador of Iraq to Belarus was Haidar Hadi who served from July 2010 to November 2015. Since his post expired, there has been no Iraqi Ambassador in Belarus. Both are members of the Non-Aligned Movement.
