Ben James Phillips (born 30 September 1974) is an English cricketer who played for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club until his release in 2013. [1] He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium pace bowler.
Phillips began his career at Kent,appearing for their Second XI regularly throughout the late 1990s. His made his first-class cricket debut for the club against Sussex early in the 1996 season,taking four wickets in the match. [2] He failed to impress during the following match against Leicestershire,taking no wickets, [3] and only made one more first-class appearance in the season. [4] Despite scoring his maiden first-class century in 1997 against Lancashire and twice taking 5 wickets in an innings,he dropped out of the first-class game at the end of the 1998 season after 27 appearances for Kent. Between 1999 and 2001 he turned out regularly for Kent Second XI and played a spell of three one-day matches for the first team.
He joined Northamptonshire in 2002 but it was not until 2004 that he became a regular member of the first team;he was awarded his county cap in 2005. In 53 first-class matches for Northamptonshire he averaged about 23 with the bat and about 31 with the ball. His highest first-class score for Northamptonshire was 90 against Warwickshire in 2004 and his best bowling was 6/29 against Cambridge University in 2006.
At the end of the 2006 season,he asked to be released from his contract at Northamptonshire,as his family had not settled in the area. [5] He joined Somerset the following season. [6] Injury hampered his chances to make a serious impression at Somerset, [7] and by late 2009 he was primarily considered a squad player,with Director of Cricket Brian Rose stating "[Somerset] need people of Ben's calibre to come into the side when it is weakened for any reason." [7]
He joined Nottinghamshire in 2011 and although injury disrupted his first season,he was a mainstay of their County Championship attack in 2012 taking 30 wickets at 27.10.

Garnet Morley Lee was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire between 1910 and 1922 and for Derbyshire between 1925 and 1933. He scored nearly 15,000 runs in his first-class career.
Frank Henry Vigar was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Essex County Cricket Club between 1938 and 1954. A right-handed batsman,and leg break bowler,Vigar served as an all-rounder with 8,858 runs at 26.28 and 241 wickets at 37.90. From his rained-off debut in 1938,Vigar went on to play 257 matches for his county. His greatest success came in the "golden summer" of 1947,where he scored 1,735 runs and took 64 wickets. A partnership with Peter Smith of 218 for the final wicket remains an Essex record.
Gemaal Maqsood Hussain is an English professional cricketer who most recently played for Somerset County Cricket Club. A right-arm fast-medium paced bowler,he moved to Somerset from neighbouring county Gloucestershire at the close of the 2010 season.
David John Halfyard was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Kent County Cricket Club and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club between 1956 and 1970. He was primarily a bowler and took nearly 1,000 wickets during his first-class career. He also played Minor County cricket for Northumberland,Durham and Cornwall. Following a road traffic accident in 1962,Halfyard retired from cricket to become an umpire but was able to return to the game in 1968.
The 1979 Gillette Cup Final was a cricket match between Somerset County Cricket Club and Northamptonshire County Cricket Club played on 8 September 1979 at Lord's in London. It was the seventeenth final of the Gillette Cup,which had been the first English domestic knock-out competition between first-class sides. Northamptonshire had won the competition in 1976;Somerset were playing their second consecutive final,having lost to Sussex in 1978.

The 2017 Royal London One-Day Cup tournament was a limited overs cricket competition that forms part of the 2017 domestic cricket season in England and Wales. Matches were contested over 50 overs per side and had List A cricket status. All eighteen First-class counties competed in the tournament which ran from the end of April with the final taking place at Lord's on 1 July. Nottinghamshire won the tournament,defeating Surrey in the final. The defending champions were Warwickshire.
The 2019 Vitality Blast is the 2019 season of the t20 Blast,a professional Twenty20 cricket league that was played in England and Wales. It was the second season in which the domestic T20 competition,run by the ECB,has been branded as the Vitality Blast due to a new sponsorship deal. The 2020 Bob Willis Trophy was a first-class cricket tournament held in the 2020 English cricket season,and the inaugural edition of the Bob Willis Trophy. It was separate from the County Championship,which was not held in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. The eighteen county cricket teams were split into three regional groups of six,with the two group winners with the most points advancing to a final held at Lord's. The maximum number of overs bowled in a day was reduced from 96 to 90,and the team's first innings could be no longer than 120 overs.
