Ben Self is the former chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party,having been elected in November 2017. [1] [2] He was a co-founder for digital strategy firm Blue State Digital [3] and is co-founder of West Sixth Brewery in Lexington,Kentucky. [4] [5]
He grew up in Lexington his entire youth [6] and after graduating from high school,went off to Boston to study electrical engineering and computer science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology,graduating with a bachelor's in 1999 [7] and completing a master's in 2000. [4] [8]
After university,Self moved to the Washington,D.C. suburbs,starting a job as a government IT consultant for now-defunct American Management Systems.
His shifted industries when he departed professional consulting and volunteered for the Howard Dean presidential campaign,starting in the fall of 2003. [9] Because of the application of new media and digital to political campaigns,in a 2011 interview with PBS's One-on-One,Self stated "we didn't know at the time,but [it] was changing the world of politics forever." [9] It was on the ill-fated,but technologically progressive campaign that he crossed paths with Jascha Franklin-Hodge,Clay Johnson,and Joe Rospars.
The four of them would go on to found Blue State Digital following the end of the Dean campaign in early 2004, [10] to commercialize the technology powering the campaign and apply them to Democratic political campaigns and causes around the United States. He remained a partner in the firm while serving as the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) technology director from 2005 to 2009. As director,he oversaw the overhaul of critical platforms to help power the Democrats to regaining the majority in Congress during the United States elections of 2006.
His final year at the DNC,he and his team helped support the presidential campaign for Barack Obama,in partnership with his firm,Blue State Digital and the technology staff for the campaign. He left the DNC following Obama's first inauguration,spending a little over a year working back with his company. His final year involved work in Australia [11] to help then-prime minister Kevin Rudd engage the public and use technology in political campaigns. [12]
In January 2010,he sold his stake in Blue State Digital and planted himself full-time back in his hometown of Lexington. [2] While living in Kentucky,he founded a brewery,West Sixth Brewery.
Self is a native of and currently lives in Lexington with his wife,Becca,and their two children. [6]
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is the governing body of the United States Democratic Party. The committee coordinates strategy to support Democratic Party candidates throughout the country for local,state,and national office,as well as works to establish a "party brand". It organizes the Democratic National Convention held every four years to nominate a candidate for President of the United States and to formulate the party platform. While it provides support for party candidates,it does not have direct authority over elected officials. When a Democrat is president,the White House controls the Committee. According to Boris Heersink,"political scientists have traditionally described the parties’national committees as inconsequential but impartial service providers."
Albert Benjamin Chandler III is an American lawyer and politician who served as the United States representative for Kentucky's 6th congressional district from 2004 to 2013. A Democrat,Chandler was first elected to Congress in a 2004 special election. He served until January 2013,having been defeated for re-election by Andy Barr in the 2012 elections.
Frank Daniel Mongiardo is an American physician and politician from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mongiardo is a Democrat and was the 54th lieutenant governor of Kentucky from 2007 until 2011. He was a member of the Kentucky State Senate from 2001 to 2007. He also ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004,narrowly losing in the general election to Jim Bunning and again in 2010,losing in the primary election to Jack Conway.
Joseph Jerry Andrew is an American politician and lawyer. He was national chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 1999 to 2001. He previously served as chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party from 1995 to 1999. He served with DNC General Chairman Ed Rendell. Howard Brush Dean III is an American physician,author,lobbyist,and retired politician who served as the 79th governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2005 to 2009. Dean was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2004 presidential election where he campaigned as a long-shot candidate;his campaign suffered after negative reactions in the media to a hoarse "Yeah" that he shouted after enumerating states that he hoped to win. Later,his implementation of the fifty-state strategy as head of the DNC is credited with the Democratic victories in the 2006 and 2008 elections. Afterward,he became a political commentator and consultant to McKenna Long &Aldridge,a law and lobbying firm.
The 2008 Florida Democratic presidential primary took place on January 29,2008. Originally,the state had 185 delegates up for grabs that were to be awarded in the following way:121 delegates were to be awarded based on the winner in each of Florida's 25 congressional districts while an additional 64 delegates were to be awarded to the statewide winner. Twenty-five unpledged delegates,known as superdelegates,were initially able to cast their votes at the Democratic National Convention.

The company is led by the one remaining co-founder,Joe Rospars (CEO). Co-founder Jascha Franklin-Hodge left in July 2014 to become the CIO for the city of Boston.

The most prominent of those was the 2016 DNC email leaks. Cybersecurity research firms say the site is a front for the Russian cyber-espionage group Fancy Bear. On July 13,2018,an indictment was made against 12 Russian GRU military officers;it alleged that DCLeaks is part of a Russian military operation to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Jascha Franklin-Hodge is the former chief information officer for the City of Boston,Massachusetts,under Mayor Marty Walsh and former co-founder and partner for digital consulting firm Blue State Digital. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu appointed Franklin-Hodge on December 7,2021 as her administration's new Chief of Streets,a position that oversees the Boston Transportation Department and Public Works Department.
