Hon Bernard Barida Mikko (born May 7,1961) is a Nigerian politician and businessman from Gokana LGA in Rivers State. He served as a member of the 4th parliament of the Nigerian National Assembly delegation from Rivers state,representing Khana/Gokana constituency from 1999 to 2003. In 2022,Mikko declared his interest to participate in the 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election under APC,however,Tonye Cole won the primary election and emerged as the party's candidate. . In 1987,Bernard Mikko was elected Councillor,B.dere Ward 4,Bori local Government Council.
From January 1988 to June 1989 He served as the Vice-Chairman of the Bori Local Government Council. In 1999,He was elected into the House of Representatives of Nigeria,where he served till 2003,representing the Khana/Gokana Constituency. Deeyah Emmanuel Nwika succeeded him. [3]
Under the PDP,Bernard Mikko was appointed as Special Adviser on Monitoring to PDP National Chairman(Dr. Bamanga Tukur) from 2013 to 2014. [4] In 2014,he declared his intention to join the 2015 Rivers State gubernatorial election. However,he and 15 others boycotted the ward congress on the grounds of unfair practices. [5] [6] The Primary election was won by Ezenwo Nyesom Wike. [7]
In 2017,Mikko defected to the All Progressive Congress APC. In 2018,he joined the race for the Rivers State Southeast Senatorial seat. However,all nominations in the APC were nullified and APC was barred from fielding candidates in the 2019 Rivers State elections. [8] [9]
In 2021,he was appointed Chairman of,the APC Congress Appeal Committee for Enugu State. [10]
Prince Tonye Princewill (Tonye Princewill) (born 4 January 1969) is a Nigerian investor,politician,film producer and philanthropist who was the 2015 Labour Party and 2007 Action Congress nominee for Governor of Rivers State. He is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the son of King T.J.T. Princewill of the Kalabari Kingdom of Rivers State,Nigeria.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria,along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Founded on 6 February 2013 from a merger of Nigeria's three largest opposition parties,the party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. This marked the first time in Nigerian history that an opposition party unseated a governing party and power was transferred peacefully.
Elections in Rivers State are supervised and conducted by two major electoral bodies,Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). There are 23 local government areas,319 electoral wards and 4442 polling units in the state. Elections for Governor and the House of Assembly are held every four years,along with federal elections for President and the National Assembly.
The Rivers State gubernatorial election took place on 9 March 2019,concurrently with various other Nigerian state level elections. A rerun of the vote was held in Abua–Odual,Ahoada West,Gokana and Opobo–Nkoro on 13 April. One-term incumbent Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of the People's Democratic Party was eligible to run for re-election. He won in 2015 with 87.77% of the vote.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly,three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State,Kogi State,and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023,to elect the Governor of Enugu State,with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria),after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger,the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate,Chijioke Edeoga,who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),Frank Nweke Jr,garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third,while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Uche Nnaji,placed fourth,with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Enugu State will be held on 25 February 2023,to elect the 3 federal Senators from Enugu State,one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election,as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives;with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
