The election for Governor of Rivers State took place on 11 April 2015. People's Democratic Party candidate Ezenwo Wike, a former Minister of State for Education defeated All Progressives Congress candidate Dakuku Peterside and Labour Party candidate Tonye Princewill.

People's Democratic Party candidate Ezenwo Wike ran an effective campaign and was unopposed for the 8 December 2014 Primary. He won with 97.65 percent of the vote against four other opponents, including Lee Maeba, the senator for Rivers State South East constituency. [2]

Ezenwo Nyesom, also known variously as Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike or Nyesom Wike is a Nigerian politician and lawyer who is the sixth and current Governor of Rivers State. He is an Ikwerre from Rumuepirikom in Obio-Akpor, Rivers State. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party and was educated at Rivers State University of Science and Technology.
Felix Amaechi Obuah is a Nigerian business magnate, politician and philanthropist originally from Omoku, Rivers State, Nigeria. He has been the chairman of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party since 2013 and was reelected in May 2016 for his second term. Obuah has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Ibadan. Bathuel Harrison Iheanyichukwu is a civil engineer and architect, who serves as the current Rivers State Commissioner of Works. He was appointed to this position by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and sworn in on 9 May 2016. He replaces Kelvin Wachukwu, who was suspended indefinitely on 1 April 2016.
The Rivers State gubernatorial election took place on 9 March 2019, concurrently with various other Nigerian state level elections. A rerun of the vote was held in Abua–Odual, Ahoada West, Gokana and Opobo–Nkoro on 13 April. One-term incumbent Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of the People's Democratic Party was eligible to run for re-election. He won in 2015 with 87.77% of the vote.
The Inauguration of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike as the 6th Governor of Rivers State took place on Friday, 29 May 2015 at the Liberation Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt. The ceremony marked the beginning of the first four-year term of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike as Governor and Ipalibo Banigo as Deputy Governor.
General elections were held in Nigeria on 23 February 2019 to elect the President, Vice President, House of Representatives and the Senate. The elections had initially been scheduled for 16 February, but the Electoral Commission postponed the vote by a week at 03:00 on the original polling day, citing logistical challenges in getting electoral materials to polling stations on time. It replaces the First Wike Executive Council which was dissolved on 24 June 2017. Among the commissioner-designees as of 8 August 2017 are seven former commissioners who served in the preceding Executive Council.
Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja is a Nigerian politician who represented Opobo–Nkoro in the Rivers State House of Assembly during the 4th, 5th and 6th Assembly. He also served as Majority Leader of the House for two tenures lasting a total of eight years. He was the All Progressives Grand Alliance nominee for Deputy Governor of Rivers State in 2011. He later switched political allegiance, joining the Rivers State People's Democratic Party. He is currently serving as Commissioner of Education in the second Wike Executive Council.

The 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election will take place in early 2023, to elect the governor of Rivers State. Incumbent PDP Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. The primaries will be scheduled for late 2022 or early 2023.
The 2007 Nigerian Senate election in Rivers State was held on April 21, 2007, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Rivers State. George Thompson Sekibo representing Rivers East, Wilson Asinobi Ake representing Rivers West and Lee Maeba representing Rivers South East all won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
