Seriake Dickson emerged the PDP candidate in the gubernatorial primary election. His running mate was Gboribiogha John Jonah. [13] [14]

The Governor of Bayelsa State is elected using the plurality voting system.

Primary election

PDP primary

The PDP primary election was scheduled to be held on November 19, 2011. [15] [16] [17] The two main contenders were: Timipre Sylva and Henry Seriake Dickson. [18] Sittinɡ governor, Seriake Dickson, was appointed by the party's working committee in the state as their candidate. [19]

Timipre Sylva, the immediate past governor was disqualified from contesting in the primaries by the Supreme Court, [7] [20] [21] after winning the party's primary election in 2011, [22] [23] just two months to the 2012 election. [24]

PDP candidate Seriake Dickson won the election for a first term, defeating other party candidates. Dickson received 89% of the votes. Voters turnout statewide was put at about 72%. [25] [26]

The total number of registered voters in the state was 591,870. Total number of votes cast was 467,004. [27]

The 2007 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on April 14, 2007. Namadi Sambo of the PDP defeated other candidates by polling 1,326,632 popular votes, ANPP's Sani Muhammed Sha'aban was closest contender with 478,725 votes and AC's Muhammad Suleman Zantu scoring 109,415 votes.

The 2019 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election occurred on 16 November 2019, the APC nominee David Lyon won the election, defeating Douye Diri of the PDP.

The 2019 Zamfara State gubernatorial election occurred on 9 March 2019. APC's Mukhtar Shehu Idris polled 67.41% of the total popular votes, defeating PDP's Bello Matawalle who got 23.89% of the total votes and trailed behind by a margin of 345,089 votes, and several minor party candidates. APC swept the entire 14 LGAs of the state, winning in all. It was, however, Matawalle, who was later declared winner by the INEC and sworn in as governor after the verdict of the Supreme Court, which declared Idris' votes as 'wasted'.

The 2015 Plateau State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. APC's Simon Lalong won election for a first term, defeating Gyang Pwajok of the PDP and four minor party candidates. Lalong won in 11 LGAs, receiving 51.83% of the vote, while Pwajok won the remaining six of the 17 LGAs of the state, receiving 47.76% of the total votes, trailing behind Lalong with 44,386 votes margin.

The 2023 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 November 2023, to elect the Governor of Bayelsa State. Incumbent PDP Governor Douye Diri is running for re-election. The primaries are scheduled for between 27 March and 17 April 2022.
