Chinwoke Mbadinuju won at the PDP primary election, but the nomination was given to Chris Ngige, [14] [15] [16] [17] making him to switch to AD. [18] [19] [20] Ngige's running mate was Okey Udeh. [21] [22] [23]

The Governor of Anambra State is elected using the plurality voting system.

Results

A total of seven candidates registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the election. [24] PDP candidate Chris Ngige won election for a first tenure, defeating APGA's candidate, Peter Obi and other candidates. [7] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] [30]

The total number of registered voters in the state was 1,859,795. [7] However, only 47.22% (i.e. 878,212) of registered voters participated in the exercise. [6]

Chris Nwabueze Ngige is a Nigerian politician and medical doctor who served as minister of Labour and Employment of Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration from 2015 to 2023. Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba, is a Nigerian politician who served as Senator for the Anambra South Senatorial District of Anambra State from 2011 to 2019. Uba also won the 2007 Anambra State gubernatorial election on the platform of the People's Democratic Party but was declared unduly elected by the Supreme Court of Nigeria a month later. He defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress in February 2017, the leadership crises engulfing the former ruling party PDP may have motivated his decision.

The 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election took place on 6 November 2021, to elect the Governor of Anambra State. Incumbent APGA Governor Willie Obiano was term-limited and could not seek a third consecutive term. APGA nominee, former Central Bank Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, retained the office for APGA with a 24% win over PDP nominee, former Transcorp CEO Valentine Ozigbo.

The 2011 Nigerian Senate election in Anambra State was held on April 9, 2011, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Anambra State. John Emeka Okey representing Anambra North, and Andy Ubah representing Anambra South both won on the platform of the People's Democratic Party. While Chris Ngige representing Anambra Central won on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria.
