The 2021 Kano local elections were held on January 16, 2021, to elect 44 local government chairmen and 484 local government councillors in all 44 local government areas. As in the 2018 elections, the Kano All Progressives Congress won all 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats.

The All Progressives Congress' primaries reportedly became selections based on loyalty to incumbent Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje without policy debates as Ganduje attempts to build support for his post-governorship. [1] For the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, its Kwankwasiyya faction boycotted the elections while the other faction led by Aminu Bashir Wali participated in the elections; the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission recognized the Wali-led faction, leading to lawsuits from the Kwankwasiyya faction. [2] [3] [4] In total, 12 parties participated in the elections, although only the APC contested all 528 elections.

On election day, voting was peaceful but concerns over low turnout and underage voting were raised immediately. [5] Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission Ibrahim Garba-Sheka claimed the elections were successful and did not respond to The Punch reporter queries on photos of underage voters next to KANIEC officials. [6] After the election, further reports of rigging in the APC primaries and underage voting along with a report of Garba-Sheka dining with Ganduje on election day led to doubts in the validity of the results and calls for reform in local election administration. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, FNSE, FNIQS is a Nigerian politician who was the Governor of Kano state from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015. After he lost his re-election in 2003, he was appointed the first Minister of Defence of the Fourth Republic with no prior military background from 2003 to 2007, under the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo. He was later elected to the Senate in 2015, serving one term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Kano Central Senatorial District.

The All Progressives Congress is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with its main rival, the People's Democratic Party. It was founded on 6 February 2013.

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR is a Nigerian politician who is currently serving as the Governor of Kano State. He took over office in 2015. He previously served as Rabiu Kwankwaso's deputy governor twice, between 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015.

The 2019 Kaduna State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC candidate Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai defeated main opposition party PDP's candidate, Isah Ashiru, to emerge winner of the contest. APC was said to have won 14 LGAs, PDP nine.

The 2015 Kano State gubernatorial election occurred on April 11, 2015. APC candidate Abdullahi Umar Ganduje won the election, defeating PDP Salihu Sagir Takai and other candidates.

The 2019 Kano State gubernatorial election occurred on March 9, 2019. APC candidate Abdullahi Umar Ganduje won re-election for a second term, defeating PDP Abba Kabir Yusuf and other 53 candidates.

The 2007 Kano State gubernatorial election occurred on April 14, 2007. ANPP candidate Ibrahim Shekarau won the election, defeating PDP Ahmed Bichi and 14 other candidates.

The 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial election will take place on June 18, 2022, to elect the Governor of Ekiti State. Incumbent APC Governor Kayode Fayemi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. The primaries are scheduled for between January 4 to 29.

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections will be held for state governors in 30 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but two will be held in the early spring while the Kogi State and Bayelsa State elections will both be held in the autumn. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election will take place in early 2023, to elect the Governor of Kano State. Incumbent APC Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. The primaries will be scheduled for late 2022 or early 2023.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Kano State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Kano State. Ibrahim Shekarau representing Kano Central, Jibrin I Barau representing Kano North and Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya representing Kano south all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The 2021 Delta State local elections were held on March 6, 2021 to elect 25 local government chairmen and 500 local government councillors in all 25 local government areas; it is the first election to be held using new electoral wards after the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission created 34 new wards in December 2020. Party primaries were held from December 7 to December 31, 2020 with January 1, 2021 starting the general election campaign. As in the 2018 elections, the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party won all 25 chairmanship and 500 councillorship seats. The main opposition, the Delta State All Progressives Congress announced a boycott of the elections on election day due to alleged irregularities.

The 2021 Yobe State local elections were held on February 27, 2021, to elect 17 local government chairmen and 178 local government councillors in all 17 local government areas. As in the 2017 elections, the Yobe All Progressives Congress won all 17 chairmanship and 178 councillorship seats.

The 2019 Nigerian House of Representatives elections in Kano State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the House of Representatives to represent Kano State, Nigeria.
