2018 Osun State gubernatorial election

The Osun State gubernatorial election took place on 22 September 2018. The election was held alone where national and state level elections were to be held by 2019. Two-term incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress was in-eligible to run for re-election. Ademola Adeleke of the People's Democratic Party won the initial election as announced by INEC. [1] but was defeated in a rerun on 27 September by Gboyega Oyetola. [2]

Background

Rauf Aregbesola previously served as a commissioner in Lagos State under Bola Tinubu's administration prior to becoming governor.

Results

The rerun on 27 September was called after the first round was declared inconclusive, on account of Ademola's margin of victory being smaller than the number of cancelled votes in seven polling units [3]

Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola is a Nigerian politician who has served as Governor of Osun State since 2019. He contested the Osun State gubernatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 22 September 2018 gubernatorial election and he won. On 23 March 2019 Tribunal declared him to have not been legally returned and orders INEC to issue certificates of return to Senator Adeleke of the PDP which was contested at the Court of Appeal. Prior to his winning the election, he was the Chief of Staff to Rauf Aregbesola, his predecessor.

In the post-elections situation, the APC held Ekiti with a victory for former Secretary to the State Government Abiodun Oyebanji but lost Osun as Oyetola was defeated by former Senator Ademola Adeleke—the nominee of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election took place on 16 July 2022, to elect the governor of Osun State. Incumbent All Progressives Congress Governor Gboyega Oyetola was eligible for re-election but lost by a 3.5% margin to former Senator Ademola Adeleke—the nominee of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Osun Health Insurance Scheme (O'HIS) established by the Osun State government in Nigeria to improve the life of the people of the state at a more minimal rate, it was created to help the people have easy access to Health Care management/Insurance.
