The 2013 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on 16 November 2013. The APGA nominee Willie Obiano won the election, defeating Tony Nwoye of the PDP. [1] [2]

Willie Obiano emerged APGA candidate after defeating 4 other candidates. He picked Nkem Okeke as his running mate. Tony Nwoye was the PDP candidate with Amamchukwu Ezike as his running mate. 23 candidates contested in the election. [3]

Primary election

APGA primary

The APGA primary election was held on 26 August 2013. Willie Obiano won the primary election polling 870 votes against 4 other candidates. His closest rival was Uche Ekwunife, who came second with 150 votes. Others were Paul Odenigbo, Emeka Nwogbo and John Nwosu. Prince John Emeka and Patrick Obianwu withdrew from the election. Willie Obiano picked Nkem Okeke as his running mate. [4] [5]

PDP primary

The PDP primary election was held on 24 August 2013. Tony Nwoye emerged the party's flag bearer after polling 498 votes against 13 other candidates. His closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who polled 357 votes while Alex Obiogolu came third with 13 votes. Tony Nwoye picked Amamchukwu Ezike as his running mate. [6] [7] [8]

A total number of 23 candidates registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the election. [9] [3]

The total number of registered voters in the state was 1,776,167, while 465,891 voters were accredited. Total number of votes cast was 442,242, while number of valid votes was 425,254. Rejected votes were 16,988. [1]

Joy Emodi was elected Senator for the Anambra North constituency of Anambra State, Nigeria, taking office on 20 February 2005 after the election of Emmanuel Anosike was annulled. She was re-elected in 2007, but her second election was appealed by Alphonsus Obi Igbeke, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate. After protracted hearings, Igbeke was declared the winner on 25 March 2010.

The 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election took place on 6 November 2021, to elect the Governor of Anambra State. Incumbent APGA Governor Willie Obiano was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term. APGA nominee, former Central Bank Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, retained the office for APGA with a 24% win over PDP nominee, former Transcorp CEO Valentine Ozigbo.

The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, concurrent with elections to the Enugu State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

The 2023 Nigerian House of Representatives elections will be held on 25 February 2023 where voters will elect members of the House of Representatives using first-past-the-post voting in all 360 federal constituencies. The last regular House elections for all districts were in 2019.
