The 2013 Anambra State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on 16 November 2013. The APGA nominee Willie Obiano won the election, defeating Tony Nwoye of the PDP. [1] [2]
Willie Obiano emerged APGA candidate after defeating 4 other candidates. He picked Nkem Okeke as his running mate. Tony Nwoye was the PDP candidate with Amamchukwu Ezike as his running mate. 23 candidates contested in the election. [3]
The Governor of Anambra State is elected using the plurality voting system.
The APGA primary election was held on 26 August 2013. Willie Obiano won the primary election polling 870 votes against 4 other candidates. His closest rival was Uche Ekwunife, who came second with 150 votes. Others were Paul Odenigbo, Emeka Nwogbo and John Nwosu. Prince John Emeka and Patrick Obianwu withdrew from the election. Willie Obiano picked Nkem Okeke as his running mate. [4] [5]
The PDP primary election was held on 24 August 2013. Tony Nwoye emerged the party's flag bearer after polling 498 votes against 13 other candidates. His closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who polled 357 votes while Alex Obiogolu came third with 13 votes. Tony Nwoye picked Amamchukwu Ezike as his running mate. [6] [7] [8]
A total number of 23 candidates registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest in the election. [9] [3]
The total number of registered voters in the state was 1,776,167, while 465,891 voters were accredited. Total number of votes cast was 442,242, while number of valid votes was 425,254. Rejected votes were 16,988. [1]

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is a Nigerian political party formed in June 2002 and has governed the South eastern state of Anambra since 2003.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Founded on 6 February 2013 from a merger of Nigeria's three largest opposition parties, the party came to power following the victory of party candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election. This marked the first time in Nigerian history that an opposition party unseated a governing party and power was transferred peacefully.
Willie Obiano is a Nigerian politician, banker and technocrat. He was the 4th Governor of Anambra State from 17 March 2014 to 17 March 2022.
Dr. Tony Okechukwu Nwoye is a Nigerian politician, serving as the Senator of Anambra North Senatorial District. He was a former member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing the people of Anambra East/West constituency of Anambra state. He was a gubernatorial candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2013 Anambra State governorship election and was also a gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the 2017 Anambra State governorship election. He is currently a member of the Labour Party.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) is a social-democratic political party in Nigeria. The party was created to challenge the two major contemporary parties in Nigeria, the People's Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress. In its manifesto, it called for concerted efforts to improve welfare, fight for social justice and provide equality of opportunities for all citizens in Nigeria. The Young Progressive Party won one seat out of the 109 seats in the Nigerian Senate during the 2019 general elections.

A president of the 4th Senate between 1999 and 2000, Chuba Okadigbo is from this district. Tony Nwoye is the current Senator of this senatorial district.

Incumbent PDP governor Okezie Ikpeazu was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Alex Otti, a banker, gained the office for the Labour Party by a margin of victory over first runner-up and PDP nominee—Okey Ahiwe, the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.

Incumbent APC Governor Dave Umahi is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Anambra State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Anambra State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
