Thuringia,officially the Free State of Thuringia,is one of Germany's 16 states —with 2.1 million people its 12th-largest by population and with 16,171 square kilometers its 11th-largest in area.
Gera is a city in the German state of Thuringia. With around 93,000 inhabitants,it is the third-largest city in Thuringia after Erfurt and Jena as well as the easternmost city of the Thüringer Städtekette,an almost straight string of cities consisting of the six largest Thuringian cities from Eisenach in the west,via Gotha,Erfurt,Weimar and Jena to Gera in the east. Gera is the largest city in the Vogtland,and one of its historical capitals along with Plauen,Greiz and Weida. The city lies in the East Thuringian Hill Country,in the wide valley of the White Elster,between Greiz (upstream) and Leipzig (downstream). Anja Siegesmund is a German politician of Alliance 90/The Greens. Between 2014 and 2023,she served as Minister of the Environment in the state government of Thuringia in the coalition government of Bodo Ramelow. Until 31 January 2023,she was also Second Deputy Minister-President of Thuringia. From 2009 to 2014 she was leader of the Greens parliamentary group in the Landtag of Thuringia. She was a member of the Landtag from 2009 to 2015,then again from 2019 to 2020. In December 2022 she announced her imminent resignation from her political offices;on 1 February 2023 she was succeeded by Bernhard Stengele.
Nohra was the first of the early Nazi concentration camps in Germany,established 3 March 1933 in a school at an airfield in Nohra. The camp was administered by the interior ministry of Thuringia. The inmates were exclusively communists and included half of the Communist party group in the Thuringian state parliament. Prisoners were not forced to work or systematically abused,but had to suffer from poor hygienic conditions and did not have beds. The camp was closed down again after a few months,and the building was demolished in the 1950s. A plaque commemorating the camp was installed in 1988 but taken down in 1990;as of 2023 there is no memorial board for the camp.
Willy Marschler was a German Nazi Party politician who served as one of the first two Nazis to hold ministerial office in a German State. He went on to be the Minister-President of Thuringia through most of the Third Reich.
Gerd Schuchardt is an electrical engineer who built his career and reputation in East Germany before 1990 in microprocessor technology and related forward-looking branches of science. He was interested in politics,but had avoided involvement in the country's ruling SED (party) or any of the various so-called "bloc parties" which it controlled. In January 1990,with the winds of political change - somewhat implausibly,as many still thought at the time - blowing across from the Kremlin in Moscow,the party leaders in East Berlin no longer felt able to stand against domestic pressures for a return to democratic politics after more than half a century of one-party dictatorship. Gerd Schuchardt became an activist member of the re-awakening Social Democratic Party. After reunification in October 1990 state-level democratic politics returned to Thuringia:Schuchardt became a leading figure in Thuringian state politics,selected by party members as the Social Democratic Party's lead candidate in the 1994 Thuringian state election. He led his party to what turned out to be its best electoral result in Thuringia to date. In the resulting "Grand coalition" government that ensued he served as vice-minister-president until 1999 under the leadership of Bernhard Vogel (CDU) and as Minister for the Sciences,Research and the Arts.
Alliance for Thuringia was an electoral alliance for the 2024 Thuringian state election.
The Citizens for Thuringia was a political party in Thuringia in Germany between 2020 and 2024. After party defections,it was represented in the Landtag of Thuringia with four seats. The party dissolved in 2024 to join the Values Union. The association of the same name,however,remained in existence.

From 30 August 2017 to 5 February 2020,Maier was Minister of the Interior of the Free State of Thuringia in the First Ramelow cabinet. On 4 March 2020,he was reappointed minister of his previous ministry in the Second Ramelow cabinet. He has been state chairman of the SPD Thuringia since 26 September 2020 and deputy prime minister of Thuringia since 31 August 2021.
