Koirala family is one of the prominent political families of Nepal in the Republican Era. The family was founded by Krishna Prasad Koirala, a Rana Era socio-political activist who was exiled to Bihar, India by then Prime Minister Maharaja Chandra Sumsher. Many of the family members have remained prominent figures in the Nepali Congress party since the country's first democratic movement. Four members, three of them brothers and their maternal cousin Sushil Koirala, have been Prime Minister of Nepal. General elections were held in Nepal from 18 February to 3 April 1959 to elect the 109 members of the first House of Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament of Nepal. They were held under the provisions of the 1959 constitution, which had been adopted on 12 February. More than 4.25 million people out of an overall population of about 8.55 million (1954) were eligible to vote. Voter turnout was 42.18%.

He won the Madan Puraskar for his novel Radha in 2005. Jhola, one of his short stories has been adapted into a film of the same title. He is known for using meta-writing style in his fictional works.

Jagannath Acharya was a Nepalese freedom fighter and politician. His affiliated political party was Nepali Congress.
