Datuk Billy Abit Joo (born 10 May 1949) was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Hulu Rajang constituency in Sarawak from 1990 to 2013.

Billy Abit entered Parliament in the 1990 election, running as an independent. [1] [2] He later joined the Sarawak People's Party (PRS) in the Barisan Nasional coalition. His rural constituency was the largest by area in Malaysia. [1] In 2009, he led a parliamentary delegation into the constituency to enquire into living conditions of the Penan people. [3] He has called for the establishment of forest reserves for the Penans. [4] In 2008, he crossed party lines to be the only government MP to sign a petition for the review of Malaysia's Internal Security Act. [5]

Billy Abit's parliamentary career came to an end at the 2013 election, when the PRS nominated Wilson Ugak Kumbong to contest Hulu Rajang. [6]

Sibu is an inland city in the central region of Sarawak. It is the capital of Sibu District in Sibu Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The city is located on the island of Borneo and covers an area of 129.5 square kilometres (50.0 sq mi). Penan people

The Penan are a nomadic indigenous people living in Sarawak and Brunei, although there is only one small community in Brunei; among those in Brunei half have been converted to Islam, even if only superficially. Penan are one of the last such peoples remaining as hunters and gatherers. The Penan are noted for their practice of 'molong' which means never taking more than necessary. Most Penan were nomadic hunter-gatherers until the post-World War II missionaries settled many of the Penan, mainly in the Ulu-Baram district but also in the Limbang district. They eat plants, which are also used as medicines, and animals and use the hides, skin, fur, and other parts for clothing and shelter.

The Rajang River is a river in Sarawak, Malaysia. The river is located in northwest of Borneo. The river originates in the Iran Mountains, flows through Kapit, and then towards the South China Sea. At approximately 565 km long (351 mi) of total length, it is the 4th longest river in Borneo, and the longest river in Malaysia.

William Nyallau Badak is a Malaysian politician. Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is a Malaysian politician. He is currently one of three Deputy Chief Ministers of Sarawak. He was seven-term Member of Parliament of Malaysia for the Betong constituency before deciding not to contest in the 2018 Malaysian general election. Wong Ho Leng Malaysian politician

Wong Ho Leng was a Malaysian politician. He was the opposition leader of the Sarawak State Assembly from May 2006 to June 2013. He was also the state chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) from 2001 until 10 June 2013. He was the Member of the State Legislative Assembly of Sarawak for the seat of Bukit Assek until his death on 21 June 2014.

2011 Sarawak state election

The tenth Sarawak state election was held on Saturday, 16 April 2011 after nomination for candidates on Wednesday, 6 April 2011. The purpose of the election was to elect 71 representatives to the Sarawak State Assembly. The ninth state assembly was dissolved by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng on the advice of Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud on 21 March 2011. The previous state election in Sarawak was held in 2006.

Wilson Nyabong Ijang Malaysian politician

Wilson Nyabong Ijang is a Malaysian politician. He is the member of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly for Pelagus constituency in Sarawak, Malaysia representing Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), then was part of Barisan Nasional (BN) and now Sarawak Parties Alliance (GPS). Following the fall of BN in the 2018 general election and in the aftermath of meeting between all Sarawak-based BN coalition parties including PRS on 12 June 2018, had decided to leave the coalition to formed a new Sarawak-based coalition of GPS. He was elected in a by-election after winning a majority at DUN Pelagus in the 11th Sarawak State Election 2016. He is currently a supreme council member of local ruling party, PRS.

2021 Sarawak state election 2021 legislative election in Sarawak, Malaysia

The 2021 Sarawak state election, formally the 12th Sarawak state election, will be held on or before 30 September 2021 to elect the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. All 82 seats will be up for election, presuming no constituencies are added or removed in a redistribution. As the 18th Assembly first sat on 7 June 2016, it was originally set to be dissolved automatically on 7 June 2021. However,an ongoing federal emergency declaration, arising from the 2020–21 political crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, suspended the automatic dissolution of the legislature until the proposed end of the emergency duration on 1 August 2021

Next Malaysian general election

The next Malaysian general election, formally the 15th Malaysian general election, is scheduled to be held on or before 16 September 2023 to elect the members of the Dewan Rakyat in the 15th Parliament of Malaysia. All 222 seats will be up for election, presuming no constituencies are added or removed in a redistribution. As the 14th Parliament first sat on 16 July 2018, it will automatically be dissolved on 16 July 2023 if not dissolved earlier. Traditionally, elections for all state legislatures are also held concurrently.

Larry Sng Wei Shien, is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Julau since May 2018. He served as Member of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Pelagus from September 2001 to April 2011. He was a member, State Chairman of Sarawak of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. On 28 February 2021, he left PKR to become an independent again and declared support for the ruling Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
