Biz Stream is a weekly business news programme aired on NHK's international broadcasting service NHK World-Japan, hosted by Shaula Vogue and Raja Pradhan. It premiered 7 April 2018; [2] it airs three times a month, on weekends, with an extra repeat on Wednesday early mornings (JST).

Contents

The programme usually enters hiatus from late April to early May (Golden Week), in late summer, and from mid-December to mid-January. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, the programme entered a five-week hiatus, starting 18 April 2020 and ending 23 May 2020. [3]

Biz Stream aired its 100th episode on 15 May 2021. [4]

Format

Biz Stream is an "upbeat business programme" dealing with the top business stories and "the latest innovations" from Japan and elsewhere. [5] Every episode includes analysis by an expert guest and starts with a review of the main business headlines of the week.

The main segments are:

Occasionally, there are special episodes dealing only with one issue, such as a review of the Heisei era from the business side [6] or an investigation on plastic waste exported to Southeast Asia. [7]

The programme is also available on online service NHK Huayu Shijie, broadcast as Shāngyè Xìnxī Liú BIZ STREAM (simplified Chinese :商业信息流 BIZ STREAM; traditional Chinese :商業信息流 BIZ STREAM) with Simplified Chinese subtitles. [8]

Idaten: Tokyo Orinpikku-banashi is a Japanese historical drama television series and the 58th NHK taiga drama. It stars Nakamura Kankurō VI and Sadao Abe as marathon runner Shiso Kanakuri and swimming coach Masaji Tabata respectively. It began broadcasting in 2019 as part of the lead up to the 2020 Summer Olympics for which NHK was, under the Japan Consortium, principal co-host broadcaster. This drama marks the 55th anniversary of the 1964 Summer Olympics, which the NHK broadcast. It is the second post-war taiga drama in NHK history and the last series to premiere in the Heisei era and the first series to air during the Reiwa era. The series received an average rating of 8.2%, the lowest in history for a taiga drama.

She hosts Recorrer on InterFM plus 25 JFN stations nationwide and cohosts Design Talks Plus and Biz Stream, as well as her own podcast Greenhouse Radio with Shaula.

Reiwa is the current and 232nd era of the official calendar of Japan. It began on 1 May 2019, the day on which Emperor Akihito's eldest son, Naruhito, ascended the throne as the 126th Emperor of Japan. The day before, Emperor Akihito abdicated the Chrysanthemum Throne, marking the end of the Heisei era. The year 2019 corresponds with Heisei 31 from 1 January to 30 April, and with Reiwa 1 from 1 May. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan explained the meaning of Reiwa to be "beautiful harmony".

<i>Kiyo in Kyoto</i> Japanese manga series

Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Aiko Koyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday since December 2016, with its chapters collected in 26 tankōbon volumes as of May 2024. The series takes place in the Geisha district in Kyoto and follows the titular character Kiyo as she cooks up delicacies every day to support her friend Sumire and the other maiko.
