Bleeding Oath were an English progressive rock band from London, formed in 2009. The lineup consisted of Rob Haigh (vocals, guitar), Micah Douglas (guitar), Moat "Literally Large" Lowe (bass) and Harrison White (drums). They gained notoriety for their large Facebook campaigns, irreverent attitude and self-deprecating humour, as evidenced by the group and its fans getting artists from various major groups, including Andrew W.K., DragonForce, Jason Aalon Butler of letlive. and Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth (who the band are heavily influenced by) to tell them, in jest, to "fuck off". [1] Along with Opeth, the band cited groups such as Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon and Cynic as influences, as well as progressive metal, 20th-century classical music and jazz.

History

The group formed in 2009. After a number of lineup changes the band stabilised with a lineup of Robert Haigh on vocals and guitar, Harrison White on drums, Micah Douglas on guitar and Ben Janes on bass (the latter two found on the website joinmyband.co.uk [2] ) and began recording and performing. From 2009 to 2011 the band released several demos, including Secrets of Eternity, Ghosts of the Past and Oedipus Tyrannus.

Towards the end of 2010 the first notable Facebook campaign started, the successful "Vote Oath" campaign (aided by members of the Gill & Beez page – who also successfully led a campaign for Max Raptor to play in a fan's bedroom [3] ) to get the band to open for thrash metal band Evile in the London leg of their UK tour, played at the Camden Underworld. [4]

In 2011 the band participated in the "Road to Bloodstock" competition, a "Battle of the Bands" to gain a place in the lineup of the 2011 Bloodstock Open Air festival. Shortly before the semi-final stage, the band parted ways with bassist Ben Janes, replacing him with Moat "'Normous Bloke" Lowe. Since then the band has played numerous shows in southern and eastern England.

In December 2011, shortly after the band had begun recording of their debut EP, Terrorizer named them the "Best Unsigned Band of 2011". The band announced their intention to embark on a tour in 2012. [5]

The trailer for their self-titled EP was released on 29 January 2012 with a release date of 25 February (although due to shipping issues, the actual release date was delayed by a few days). [6] The trailer features members of bands such as Xerath and Haken, amongst others, telling Bleeding Oath to "fuck off" as well as Åkerfeldt and Katatonia. The first 50 pre-orders of the EP were numbered and had their own "custom rude word" added. 50 T-shirts with "FUCK OFF BLEEDING OATH" written on the back were also released to coincide with the EP. On 24 February, the Metal Hammer Podcast presented by Stephen Hill and Merlin Alderslade premièred a new Bleeding Oath track, "Mountains", to a positive reception from listeners, while Terrorizer Magazine streamed the song "What Fortune Gives". Upon release, the EP received positive feedback, with many praising Moat Lowe's bass playing and the quality of the production, including reviewers at Sputnikmusic. [7] In April 2012, the song "Mountains" from the debut EP was featured on Terrorizer magazine's "Fear Candy" CD. The band again entered Band Quest, reaching the finals at the Camden Underworld.

Bleeding Oath was part of a very successful gig on Sunday 1 July 2012 supporting London Progressive band Haken; the feedback from the band and fans was very positive. [8] Due to the band Crisis entering hiatus, Bleeding Oath were announced as support for Tradjectory's UK tour in September, for Bleeding Oath's first tour. Drummer Harrison White played with Tradjectory during the tour due to the departure of Fergus Gardiner, [9] joining the group permanently in November (although he left shortly afterwards).In February 2013 the band decided to break up, citing musical differences and diverging career paths as the reason for the split. A "Fan Pack" compilation was released by the band on 8 February 2013, including a number of previously unreleased demos (including live staple "Oceans") as well as tablatures and photographs.

New projects

Directly after the split was announced, Moat and Harrison stated that they had formed a new band, Novena, which will release the 32 minute EP that had been written shortly before Bleeding Oath's split. Moat also plays bass for the band No Sin Evades His Gaze, which features ex-Ravenface vocalist James Denton.

It was released on March 12, 2001, in Europe and a day later in North America through Music for Nations and Koch Records. The album marks the first collaboration between Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson and the band, as Wilson had been brought in to produce the album. This contributed to a shift in Opeth's musical style. The songs "The Drapery Falls" and "Still Day Beneath the Sun" were released as singles.

Orchid is the debut studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth, released on 15 May 1995 in Europe by Candlelight Records, and on 24 June, 1997 in the United States by Century Black. It was reissued in 2000 with one bonus track called "Into the Frost of Winter", an early unproduced rehearsal recording by the band. The recording sessions occurred at the old Unisound studio, in Finspång with production by Opeth alongside Dan Swanö. The band did not record a demo to get signed to a record label. Morningrise was the last Opeth release with drummer Anders Nordin and bassist Johan De Farfalla, as well as the last Opeth album to be produced by Dan Swanö.

Increasing popularity led them to add more band members for live performances, though outside of the band's founders, the lineup was a constantly changing, revolving door of musicians throughout the 1990s, notably including Mikael Åkerfeldt of the band Opeth for a period. After two death/doom albums, Dance of December Souls (1993) and Brave Murder Day (1996), problems with Renkse's vocal cords coupled with new musical influences led the band away from the screamed vocals of death metal to a more traditional, melodic form of heavy metal music.

It was recorded between 22 July and 4 September 2002, at the same time as Damnation, which was released five months after this album. The two albums contrast starkly with one another, purposely dividing the band's two most prevalent styles, as Deliverance is considered to be one of the band's heaviest albums, taking on a heavier and more brutal death metal-inspired sound, whereas Damnation experiments with a much mellower progressive rock-influenced sound.

The Roundhouse Tapes is the second live album and video by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. The CD was recorded on 9 November 2006 and was released on 23 October 2007 in the US, on 5 November in Europe, and on 20 November in the rest of the world. A two-disc DVD version was released on 10 November 2008, and includes exclusive menu music written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. The title is a play on the name of Iron Maiden's first release The Soundhouse Tapes, as well as the venue where the record was recorded. Åkerfeldt said, "The Roundhouse concert will always be a very memorable gig for us for many reasons, but most importantly it caught the band at the peak of the Ghost Reveries tour". This is the final Opeth release with Peter Lindgren.

Watershed is the ninth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. Released by Roadrunner Records, Watershed is the first studio album by Opeth to feature guitarist Fredrik Åkesson and drummer Martin Axenrot, who replaced longtime guitarist Peter Lindgren and drummer Martin Lopez. The artwork for the album was made by Travis Smith in collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt. It is the band's last studio album to contain death growls or any death metal elements to date.

Storm Corrosion was a musical collaboration between Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metal band Opeth and Steven Wilson, an English solo artist and frontman of the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. Åkerfeldt and Wilson began a longstanding musical partnership in 2001 when Wilson produced Opeth's fifth studio album Blackwater Park. The two began writing together for a new project in 2010, releasing their self-titled only studio album in 2012 through Roadrunner Records.

Bleeding Oath is the eponymous debut EP from English progressive metal band Bleeding Oath, released independently on February 25, 2012 in both physical and digital format. The band had begun recording the EP shortly before being named Terrorizer's Unsigned Band of 2011. The first track, "Mountains", was premiered on the Metal Hammer Podcast hosted by Stephen Hill and Merlin Alderslade, with "What Fortune Gives" being streamed by Terrorizer. The EP has received positive feedback from critics, including Metal Hammer writer Dom Lawson. The track "Mountains" featured on Terrorizer's Fear Candy 106 CD, which came free with the May 2012 issue of the magazine.
