History

Blissfield has had a high school since at least 1916, when it published its first yearbook. [7] The former high school was located on the corner of Cherry Street and Giles Avenue in Blissfield. [8]

The Blissfield School District reorganized around 1954 through the consolidation of several outlying districts. [9] A bond issue to fund construction of a new high school passed in fall 1956, and construction was completed in fall 1958. [10] [11] The architect was Warren Holmes Company. [12]

Originally, the high school athletes were called the Sugarboys due to the number of sugar beet farms in the area. [13] The opening of the new high school came with a change of mascots as the Sugarboys became the Royals. The name of the student newspaper also changed from the Sugar Scoop to the Royal Jester. [8] [14]
