Blokhus is a village in North Jutland, Denmark. It is located in Jammerbugt Municipality. Blokhus is a popular beach town with around 1 million visitors every year. [2]
Blokhus was originally named Hune Hvarre. In the early 1600s there were barely any trees in the area, so timber was imported from Norway. The locals had to store this timber somewhere, so they constructed some houses out of the timber. These houses became known as 'block houses' (Danish: blokhuse), which gave name to the village. [3]
Axel P. Jensen (1885–1972) was a Danish painter of landscapes. He spent most of his time in Blokhus.
One of the main attractions is Blokhus Beach, which is a white, sandy bathing beach with a dune area. During the summer, 47 characteristic white beach huts are placed on the beach. It is possible to drive along Blokhus Beach. During the summer, there is a lifeguard on the beach. In 2011, a new beach centre was built, which contains restrooms, an ice cream stand and a café. [4]
During the summer, the local cannon guild fire their cannon by the beach centre every night. In 2012, the former bowling alley in the town square was transformed into the shopping centre, Blokhuset. An outdoor stage has been built in the town square, and it has hosted recurring concerts during the summer. The stage was modernised and moved to one end of the town square in 2013. [5]
Close to the town is a dune plantation, Blokhus Dune Plantation (Danish: Blokhus Klitplantage), which covers 642 hectares of land and is administered by Naturstyrelsen Vendsyssel (Danish Nature Agency of Vendsyssel). Gateway Blokhus is a recreational area in the plantation between Blokhus and Hune, and contains a natural playground, a picnic area, and an outdoor baking oven that is for general use. From Gateway Blokhus there is access to a mountain bike track and nature trails. In the northern part of the dune plantation, there is an off-leash dog area. [6] [7]
Rønne is the largest town on the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. It has a population of 13,798. It was a municipality in its own right from 1970 until 2002, when Bornholm was a county. It has an area of 29.11 square kilometres, and is the administrative centre of the Bornholm municipality. As of 2018 11,539 inhabitants live in Rønne Parish, which is a narrow piece of land on the westernmost of the island and stretching north and southward comprising around a third of the area of the former municipality. Knudsker Parish made up the rest of the former municipality. Not all inhabitants of either Rønne or Knudsker (400-7553) parishes live in the city of Rønne.
Skagen is Denmark's northernmost town, on the east coast of the Skagen Odde peninsula in the far north of Jutland, part of Frederikshavn Municipality in Nordjylland, 41 kilometres (25 mi) north of Frederikshavn and 108 kilometres (67 mi) northeast of Aalborg. The Port of Skagen is Denmark's main fishing port and it also has a thriving tourist industry, attracting 2 million people annually.

Vedbæk is a wealthy suburban neighbourhood on the coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It belongs to Rudersdal Municipality and has merged with the town of Hørsholm to the north. The area has been inhabited for at least 7,000 years, as evidenced by the discovery of a Mesolithic cemetery of the Ertebølle culture. By the 16th century, there were a few small farms and fishermen's houses on the site and in the 18th century, well-to-do townsfolk from Copenhagen started to build country houses in the area. After a paddle steamer began to call at Vedbæk on its journey from Copenhagen to Helsingør, there was an influx of visitors. There are a number of large country houses and a historic church. There has been a railway station for some time and there are popular sandy beaches to the north and south. Enrum Forest is open to the public and provides recreational facilities.
Varde is a Danish city in southwestern Jutland and is the primary city in the municipality of Varde, in Region of Southern Denmark. In 2015 municipality changed its motto to "We in nature" to emphasize its rural atmosphere. The town has an old market environment and is located by Varde stream/river and is a short distance away from the beaches by the North Sea. These features make it a tourist destination. The age of Varde is not known precisely, but it is mentioned in written sources from 1107 A.D. and is therefore thought have been founded sometime in the early Middle Ages.
North Zealand, also North Sealand, refers to the northern part of the Danish island of Zealand which is not clearly defined but generally covers the area north of Copenhagen. The Danish tourist authorities have recently introduced the term Danish Riviera to cover the area in view of its increasing importance for tourism. The area has three royal castles and offers resorts with beaches, as well as lakes and forests. In addition to Kronborg Castle, three of the North Zealand forest areas used for royal par force hunting are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Ulvshale is a peninsula and small summer house locality in the north-western corner of the Danish island of Møn. Its long sandy beach and natural forest attract tourists, particularly in the summer months.
Axel Peder Jensen was a Danish painter who is remembered above all for his landscapes which added new subjects and stronger colouring to earlier works by the Funen Painters.
Mols Bjerge National Park or Nationalpark Mols Bjerge is a Danish national park in the area known as Mols Bjerge in Syddjurs Municipality, Central Jutland, inaugurated on 29 August 2009. The protected area, measures 180 square kilometres (69 sq mi) in size. The Mols Hills, reaching a height of 137 metres (449 ft), are centrally located in the park, and take up 2,500 ha. "More than half of all wild Danish plant species" can be found at Mols Bjerge.
Skagen Odde, also Skagens Odde, sometimes known in English as the Scaw Spit or The Skaw, is a sandy peninsula which stretches some 30 km (19 mi) northeast and comprises the northernmost area of Vendsyssel in Jutland, Denmark.
Østerild Wind Turbine Test Field is a facility managed by the DTU Risø Campus of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for testing of offshore wind turbines with a pinnacle height up to 330 metres (1,080 ft) near Thisted-Østerild, Denmark.
Randers Fjord is a 30 km (19 mi) long Danish fjord in Northern Europe leading to the sea of Kattegat, between Denmark and Sweden. The fjord is the outlet from Denmark's longest river, Gudenå. The upper 13 km (8.1 mi), starting at the town Randers, looks more like a broad river than a fjord. The lower 17 km (11 mi) have extensive reed plains bordering the shores To some extent this inhibits the recreational use of and access to the fjord. In some places, the reed beds are harvested for traditional roof thatching. The shallow eastern part of the fjord is known as Grund Fjord, being an extension of Alling Å.
Claus Bonderup is a Danish architect and professor emeritus in architecture at Aalborg University. He has created a large number of edifices and designs as well as city plans. Among the most renowned are the Arctic Museum in Rovaniemi, Finland, the palace of the Kuwaiti Sheik Salkem Al-Ali Al-Sabah and Professor Bonderup’s own house in the dunes near the town of Blokhus in the northern part of Jutland. Designs by Claus Bonderup have also been used by companies such as Royal Copenhagen and Georg Jensen A/S. His works are represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Løkken is a town in Vendsyssel, Denmark with a population of 1,638. The town has historically been referred to as Løchen or Lykken. Originally, the town began as a fishing village with a successful shipping trade; today it is a popular tourist and vacationing destination.

Until January 1, 2007 Pandrup Municipality was a municipality in the former North Jutland County, on the north coast of the North Jutlandic Island. The municipality covered an area of 189.67 km2, and had a total population of 10,612 (2006). Its last mayor was Flemming Jansen, a member of the Venstre political party.
