Early life

Bobby Balachandran was born in a middle-class Tamil family in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. He completed an MS in Computer Science from Portland State University. [6] [7]

Career

In 2008, he started Exterro Inc., headquartered in Portland, United States, with a vision of helping organisations manage the risks associated with their data. [8] He started executing his vision by launching products in the E-Discovery domain and became one of the first organizations in terms of offering an end-to-end platform for the enterprises to manage their end-to-end E-Discovery workflows starting from Legal Hold, In Place Preservation, Workflow Management, ECA/Collection, Review, and Production all in house. In 2018, Exterro Inc., led by Bobby, secured a six-figure investment from Leeds Equity Pvt. Ltd., [13] followed by a strategic recapitalization with the support of a group of leading global institutional investors co-led by Coller Capital and Glendower Capital and secured additional committed equity capital as part of a continuation vehicle transaction valuing Exterro at more than $1 billion (USD). Honours

Bobby Balachandran was named to Portland's prestigious "40 Under 40" list, celebrating the region's top young professionals. [16] [ unreliable source? ] In 2021, he got recognized the title of "LegalTech CEO of the Year" in the LegalTech Breakthrough Awards Program. [17] He also received a Gold Stevie Award for Achievement in Management. [18] In 2019, Bobby was a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Pacific Northwest region. [19]

In 2023, he was honored as "Executive of the Year" by the Portland Business Journal. [20]

As a producer

Balachandran ventured into film production as a producer under the BTG Universal banner [21] [22] with Demonte Colony 2 , directed by R. Ajay Gnanamuthu. [23] His upcoming projects include Chennai City Gangsters , directed by Vikram Rajeshwar and Arun Keshav, and Retta Thala , directed by Kris Thirukumaran starring Arun Vijay, Siddhi Idnani, and Tanya Ravichandran [24] along with 2 untitled projects with Jayam Ravi. The film stars Arun Vijay and Siddhi Idnani in the lead roles alongside Tanya Ravichandran in an important role. The film also includes Kannada actor Yogesh Samy as an antagonist, alongside Hareesh Peradi, John Vijay, Balaji Murugadoss, Yog Japee, Nitish Nirmal and Vincent Asokan in supporting roles.
