Bogdan Aleksandrovich Bliznyuk (born March 31, 1995) is a Ukrainian basketball player for BC Budivelnyk of the European North Basketball League and the Champions League. He played college basketball for the Eastern Washington Eagles, where he was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Year in 2018.

Early life

Bliznyuk was born in Lutsk, Ukraine. He was less than 2 years old when his father, a truck driver, died in an accident. Their mother moved them to Federal Way, Washington five years later to be closer to family. [1] His older brother, Dima, and his mother, Lyudmila, helped raise Bogdan, while also caring for his grandmother. [2]

Bliznyuk became a U.S. citizen in February 2016. [1]

College career

Bliznyuk played college basketball for the Eastern Washington University's Eagles.

On March 9, 2018, Bliznyuk became the Big Sky Conference’s all-time leading scorer, passing Orlando Lightfoot’s mark of 2,102 set in 1994. [3] Earlier in the season, Bliznyuk claimed the school all-time scoring mark, passing Venky Jois’ total of 1,803. [4] Bliznyuk's conference career scoring mark stood until the following season, when Montana State's Tyler Hall broke it. [5]

Bliznyuk finished his senior year averaging 21.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He was named Big Sky Conference Player of the Year [6] and AP Honorable Mention. [7]

Professional career

After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft, Bliznyuk joined the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2018 NBA Summer League. [8]

On July 5, 2018, Bliznyuk started his professional career with Bnei Herzliya of the Israeli Premier League, signing a three-year deal. [9] On January 21, 2019, Bliznyuk recorded a season-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field, in an 81–100 loss to Hapoel Eilat. [10] That season, Bnei Herzliya have finished the season in the last place out of 12 teams and was relegated to the Israeli National League (the second-tier league in Israel).

On September 30, 2019, Bliznyuk signed with Kyiv-Basket of the Ukrainian SuperLeague. [11] During the 2020-21 season, he averaged 12.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. On September 16, 2021, Bliznyuk signed with BC Budivelnyk. [12]

National team career

Bliznyuk is a member of the Ukraine national team. On November 29, 2018, he made his debut in an 82–54 win over Slovenia, scoring 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists. [13]

The Big Sky Conference Player of the Year Award, officially known as the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player Award, is an annual basketball award given to the Big Sky Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1978–79 season. Only one player, Larry Krystkowiak of Montana, has won the award three times (1984–86). Three others have been two-time winners: Orlando Lightfoot of Idaho and Harold Arceneaux and Damian Lillard of Weber State.

The Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team represents Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big Sky Conference, of which it has been a member since 1987.

The 2017–18 Eastern Washington Eagles men's basketball team represented Eastern Washington University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles were led by first-year head coach Shantay Legans and played their home games at Reese Court in Cheney, Washington as members of the Big Sky Conference. They finished the season 20–15, 13–5 in Big Sky play to finish in a tie for third place. At the Big Sky Tournament they defeated Portland State and Southern Utah to advance to the championship game where they lost to Montana. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational where they lost in the first round to Utah Valley.

Venkatesha "Venky" Jois is an Australian professional basketball player for the Helios Suns of the Slovenian League. He played four years of college basketball for Eastern Washington before playing professionally in Estonia, Croatia, Japan, Serbia and Germany.

Terell Allen Parks Sr. is an American professional basketball player for Fos Provence Basket of the LNB Pro A. He is a 6'9" (2.06 m) tall power forward–center. After two years at Iowa Central Community College and two years at Western Illinois, Parks entered the 2013 NBA draft, but he was not selected in the draft's two rounds.
