Chung Bora (born 1976) is a South Korean writer and translator. Her collection of short stories, Cursed Bunny ,was shortlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize.
Chung Bora was born in 1976,in Seoul. [1] Her parents were dentists. [2] She completed graduate studies in Russian and East European area studies at Yale University,then went on to gain a PhD in Slavic literature from Indiana University Bloomington. [1] [3] She taught the Russian language,literature and science fiction studies at Yonsei University. [1] [4] She is a social activist. [4]
Chung has written three novels and three collections of short stories. [4] [3] She lists as her literary influences the works of Park Wan-suh,Bruno Schulz,Bruno Jasieński,Andrei Platonov and Lyudmila Petrushevskaya, [2] as well as Samguk yusa folktales. [4] In 1998,she won a Yonsei Literature Prize for her short story The Head. [5] She is also a recipient of second prizes at the Digital Literature Awards (2008) and Gwacheon Science Center SF Awards (2014). [5]
In 2022,the English edition of her short story collection Cursed Bunny translated by Anton Hur was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. [2] The ten stories borrow from different genres,including magical realism,horror and science fiction. [1] [4] In September 2023 the book was longlisted for the National Book Award for Translated Literature. [6]
In January 2024,another short story collection of hers, Your Utopia ,came out in English translation,as did the novella Grocery List from Hanuman Books in June 2024, [7] both also translated into English by Anton Hur,who has announced that her novel,Red Sword,will be published in English translation in 2025. [8] Another novel of hers,Midnight Timetable,will be published in English translation in 2026. [9] All will be rendered by Hur.
Chung translates contemporary prose from Russian and Polish into Korean. [1] [3]
Anita Desai,is an Indian novelist and Emerita John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times. Olga Nawoja Tokarczuk is a Polish writer,activist,and public intellectual. She is one of the most critically acclaimed and successful authors of her generation in Poland. She was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature as the first Polish female prose writer for "a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a form of life". For her novel Flights,Tokarczuk was awarded the 2018 Man Booker International Prize. Her works include Primeval and Other Times,Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead,and The Books of Jacob.
Madeleine Thien is a Canadian short story writer and novelist. The Oxford Handbook of Canadian Literature has considered her work as reflecting the increasingly trans-cultural nature of Canadian literature,exploring art,expression and politics inside Cambodia and China,as well as within diasporic East Asian communities. Thien's critically acclaimed novel,Do Not Say We Have Nothing,won the 2016 Governor General's Award for English-language fiction,the Scotiabank Giller Prize,and the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards for Fiction. It was shortlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize,the 2017 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction,and the 2017 Rathbones Folio Prize. Her books have been translated into more than 25 languages.
Geetanjali Shree,also known as Geetanjali Pandey,is an Indian Hindi-language novelist and short-story writer based in New Delhi,India. She is the author of several short stories and five novels. Her 2000 novel Mai was shortlisted for the Crossword Book Award in 2001,while its English translation by Nita Kumar was published by Niyogi Books in 2017. In 2022,her novel Ret Samadhi (2018),translated into English as Tomb of Sand by Daisy Rockwell,won the International Booker Prize. Aside from fiction,she has written critical works on Premchand.

Kyung-Sook Shin,also Shin Kyung-sook or Shin Kyoung-sook,is a South Korean writer. She was the only South Korean and only woman to win the Man Asian Literary Prize in 2012 for Please Look After Mom.
Jokha Alharthi,also spelt al-Harthi,is an Omani writer and academic,known for winning the Man Booker International Prize in 2019 for her novel Sayyidat al-Qamar,published in English under the title Celestial Bodies. Alharthi is the first Arab author to win the Man Booker International Prize. She has written four novels in Arabic,two of which have been translated into English.

Ivana Dobrakovová is a Slovak writer and translator. She was born in Bratislava and studied English and French translation and interpretation at Comenius University. Her first short story collection titled Prvásmrťv rodine appeared in 2009,followed by her debut novel Bellevue (2010). Her second collection of short stories titled Toxo appeared in 2013,followed by her fourth book Matky a kamionisti (2018). All four books were shortlisted for the Anasoft Litera Prize,and Matky a kamionisti also won the EU Prize for Literature.
Song of the Soil is a 2019 Nepali novel by Chuden Kabimo. The novel is based on the Gorkhaland movement revolution that took place during 1980s in the northern part of West Bengal. The Nepali edition of the novel was initially published in 2019 by FinePrint Publication in Nepal and Sambodhan Publication in India.

Anton Hur is a Korean writer and translator of Korean literature into English. He has translated the works of Kyung-Sook Shin,Hwang Sok-yong,and Sang Young Park,whose Love in the Big City was longlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize,and Bora Chung,whose collection of short stories Cursed Bunny was shortlisted for the same prize. Hur was also the only translator that year to have been longlisted for two translations. Hur was awarded a PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grants for his translation of Cursed Bunny. Hur was awarded a PEN Translates grant to translate The Underground Village by Kang Kyeong-ae.
