The 2016 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad and commonly known as Rio 2016, was an international multi-sport event that was held from 5 to 21 August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 3 August. These were the first Olympic Games ever to be held in South America and the fourth to be held in a developing country, after the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union, and the 2008 Summer Olympics in China.

Hassan Saada is a Moroccan boxer. He was initially scheduled to compete in the men's light heavyweight competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but Saada was ejected from the competition after being arrested for sexual assault the day before the opening ceremony. Saada was arrested and jailed during the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after allegations of sexual assault and attempted rape were made against him by two Brazilian women who worked in the Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca as waitresses, one day before he was due to fight at the Olympic Games. Saada was stripped of his Olympic competitor status, and could face 6-10 years in prison if convicted.

The men's light heavyweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1952 Summer Olympics. The weight class allowed boxers of up to 81 kilograms to compete. The competition was held from 29 July to 2 August 1952. 18 boxers from 18 nations competed.
