Boxing competed as one of the eight sports at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas from July 18 to 23, 2017, in the Sir Kendal G. L. Isaacs Gymnasium, Nassau. In the Games, the age limit for participating athletes has been set according to the youth category of the International Boxing Association, which is 16–18 years, means athletes born in 1999 or 2000 are only eligible to take part. The boxing competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia was held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre in Darling Harbour. The event was only open to men and bouts were contested over four rounds of two minutes each. Five judges scored the fighters in real time and the boxer with the most points at the end was the winner.

However, boxing at the games was overshadowed with controversy after there were doubts raised that results in certain bouts had been manipulated. These concerns were upheld in a report published in 2021.
The boxing tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 24 July to 8 August 2021 at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. Thirteen events were staged, the same number as in London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. However, for the first time since the London Games, the programme has been updated, with the number of men's events reduced by two and the number of women's events increased by the same number.
