Brandon Pottinger (born 8 June 2004) is a Jamaican track and field athlete. He won the gold medal at the 2022 IAAF World Junior Championships in the high jump.
Pottinger attends Palmer Trinity Catholic High in Florida. Pottinger qualifies to compete for Jamaica through parental links - his father Marlon Pottinger was a former Kingston College athlete. [1] [2]
The Jamaican U20 high jump champion, he won the high jump at the 2022 IAAF World Junior Championships with a new personal best jump of 2.14m in Cali, Colombia. This put him ahead of the South African Brian Raats in silver and Bulgarian bronze medalist Bozhidar Saraboyukov. It was Jamaica's first ever high jump gold medal at an international championship. The World Athletics Indoor Championships are a biennial indoor track and field competition served as the global championship for that version of the sport. Organised by the World Athletics, the competition was inaugurated as the World Indoor Games in 1985 in Paris, France and were subsequently renamed to IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1987. Campbell Brown is one of only nine athletes to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event.

Abderrahmane Hammad Zaheer is the Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports and a former track and field athlete who competed in the high jump. He represented his country at the Summer Olympics in 2000, taking the bronze medal and made a second appearance at the 2004 Athens Olympics. His personal best of 2.34 m is the Algerian record for the event. He retired from the sport in 2010. In 2020, he became the President of the Algerian Olympic Committee. Hammad was appointed as minister on 16 March 2023.

Mutaz Essa Barshim is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the current Olympic Champion (2020). He is also the current World Champion and second highest jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London and at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. At the Olympics, Barshim originally won the full set of medals with bronze at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and shared gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics Tokyo. He was the Asian Indoor and World Junior champion in 2010, and won the high jump gold medals at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and 2011 Military World Games. He holds the Asian record in high jump. In 2021, his bronze in the 2012 Summer Olympics was promoted to silver in a three-way tie for second due to the disqualification of the original gold medalist.

The 3rd Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships was held in Xalapa, Mexico, on 25–28 August 1978. This was already the second time that the city was hosting this event after the 2nd junior CAC games in 1976.
