Sarutobi Sasuke is a ninja who appears in kōdan narrative art and fictional writings. The nickname is generally believed to have been concocted sometime between the Meiji to the Taishō periods. Some argue he is based on real live personages, such as Kōzuki Sasuke and Sarutobi Nisuke. His family name, meaning "monkey jump", is written with two kanji; saru (猿) is the character for "monkey", and tobi (飛) is the character for "jump". He was known for his monkey-like agility and quickness, especially in trees. Many depictions portray him as having been orphaned and raised by a band of monkeys, therefore giving rise to the monkey-like abilities. He has been described as a superhero ninja, and caused a boom of ninjas in popular culture during the 1910s-1920s in Japan.

Over time, and especially during the Edo period (1603-1867), his life and deeds became a center of attention, and he became known as a legendary Japanese outlaw hero who stole gold and other valuables to give to the poor.
The Sanada Ten Braves are a fictional group of ninja that assisted the warlord Sanada Yukimura during the Warring States era of Japan; that is, the late Sengoku period and its immediate aftermath, also known as the Azuchi–Momoyama and the early Edo periods.
Kirigakure Saizō (霧隠才蔵) was a fictional ninja of the final phase of the Sengoku period of Japan. In the folklore he is one of the Sanada Ten Braves, and next to Sarutobi Sasuke, he is the most recognized of the Ten.

Goemon is a 2009 Japanese action film written and directed by Kazuaki Kiriya. It is loosely based on the story of Ishikawa Goemon, a legendary outlaw hero who stole valuables from the rich and gave them to the poor. The film is a fictional account of Goemon's exploits and his role during the final phase of Sengoku period, particularly the period leading up to the decisive Battle of Sekigahara. Like Kiriya's previous film, Casshern, Goemon was filmed on a digital backlot, and made use of over 2,500 visual effects.

It was first aired from October 9, 1979, to April 29, 1980, on Tokyo Channel 12, and was later dubbed in several languages. The whole 24-episode run was aired in many European and Arabic countries.
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings is a Japanese anime television series based on the Capcom video game series of the same name made by Production I.G, planned and written by Yasuyuki Muto, and chiefly directed by Itsuro Kawasaki. The series started broadcast on Japan's Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting (CBC) station in April 2009; other networks broadcast the episodes within a few days, including TBS, MBS, and Animax. Its first season made its North American television debut on the Funimation Channel on November 16, 2010.
Sengoku Basara: The Last Party is an anime film that portrays the end of the Sengoku period. It is a sequel to an anime series known as Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings. The film was released in Japanese theaters on June 4, 2011. Kazuya Nakai, Sōichirō Hoshi, Tōru Ōkawa, Tomokazu Seki, Masakazu Morita, Toshiyuki Morikawa, Takehito Koyasu, Norio Wakamoto, and Mamiko Noto reprise their roles from the Samurai Kings series with Fumihiko Tachiki, Show Hayami, and Jun Fukuyama co-starring as those who first appeared in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.
Mushibugyō (ムシブギョー) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroshi Fukuda. It was serialized in Shogakukan's Shōnen Sunday Super from August 2009 to September 2010, with its chapters collected in three tankōbon volumes. A second series, Jōjū Senjin!! Mushibugyō, a retelling of the original series, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from January 2011 to September 2017, with its chapters collected in 32 tankōbon volumes.

The series is named after the Sanada Maru, a fortification defended by Sanada during the Siege of Osaka in 1615. Written by Kōki Mitani, it stars Masato Sakai as the samurai Sanada Nobushige. Sengoku Night Blood was a Japanese free-to-play otome game, developed as a collaboration between Marvelous Entertainment, Kadokawa, and Idea Factory's Otomate. Sanada Yukimura is a character from Capcom's Sengoku Basara video game franchise. He was first introduced in the 2005 hack and slash video game Devil Kings but was renamed "Scorpio" for the North American and European versions. A young samurai serving the Takeda clan, Sanada Yukimura, fights in the Sengoku period to help his clan unify Japan. While the first four games involve his growth as a samurai and deal with him taking over leadership, the spin-off game Sengoku Basara Sanada Yukimura-Den follows the character's backstory. He has also appeared in the series' anime, manga, stage play, and drama CD adaptations.

A manga series with art by hagi was serialized in Media Factory's shōjo manga magazine Monthly Comic Gene from January to October 2019 and was collected in two tankōbon volumes. A second manga series with art by Kairi Shimotsuki titled Rusted Armors: Daybreak has been serialized in the same magazine since May 2021 and has been collected in a single tankōbon volume. An anime television series by Kigumi also titled Rusted Armors: Daybreak aired from January to March 2022.
