John Abbott is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2021 provincial election. He defeated the leader of the New Democratic Party, Alison Coffin, to represent the electoral district of St. John's East-Quidi Vidi as a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. On April 8, 2021, he was appointed Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development. On May 12, 2021, Supreme Court Justice Donald Burrage rejected Coffin's bid for a recount, arguing that there was not sufficient evidence. Abbott was subsequently sworn in as MHA on May 18, 2021. The 52nd Newfoundland and Labrador general election will take place on or before November 24, 2025 to elect members to the 51st General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador.

A by-election was scheduled to be held in the provincial riding of Baie Verte-Green Bay in Newfoundland and Labrador on May 27, 2024, to elect a new member of the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly following the resignation of Liberal MHA Brian Warr. Advance polling opened on May 21.

Lin Paddock is a Canadian politician from the Progressive Conservative Party. He was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly in the 2024 Baie Verte-Green Bay provincial by-election. Paddock ran for the same riding in the 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador general election and lost to then-incumbent MHA Brian Warr of the Liberal Party.
