Bridge Michigan, also known as Bridge Magazine, is a Michigan-based nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization founded in 2011. [1] It is headquartered in Ypsilanti, Michigan and has offices in Detroit and Lansing.

Reception

The Blade described Bridge Michigan as "a well-regarded online publication that covers state issues". [2] In 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, Bridge Michigan won multiple awards, including the "Weekly/News Media Publication Class A Newspaper of the Year". [3] [4] For the 2018 MPA Better Newspaper, Bridge Michigan also won "The Best FOIA Story Award" for a report on how the Governor Rick Snyder's officials worked beside Enbridge lobbyists and employees to promote Enbridge Line 5 after reviewing emails revealed upon a Freedom of Information Act request. [3] In the 2021 MPA Better Newspaper Contest, Bridge Michigan won "The Best FOIA Story Award" for its reporting that law enforcement officials, specifically Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf, attempted to assist Donald Trump with his attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election. Attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election

After Joe Biden won the 2020 United States presidential election, then-incumbent Donald Trump pursued an aggressive and unprecedented effort to overturn the election, with support and assistance from his campaign, proxies, political allies, and many of his supporters. These efforts culminated in the 2021 United States Capitol attack by Trump supporters, which was widely described as an attempted coup d'état. One week later, Trump was impeached for incitement of insurrection but was acquitted by the Senate. In June 2022, the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack said it has enough evidence to recommend that the U.S. Department of Justice indict Trump.

Stop Line 3 protests Minnesota protests against expansion of oil pipeline

The Stop Line 3 protests are an ongoing series of demonstrations in the U.S. state of Minnesota against the expansion of Enbridge's Line 3 oil pipeline along a new route. Indigenous and two-spirit people have led the resistance to the construction of the pipeline, which began following the project's approval in November 2020. Opponents of the pipeline expansion, called water protectors, have established ceremonial lodges and resistance camps along the route of the pipeline. Enbridge has funded an escrow account that law enforcement agencies may draw on for pipeline-related police work. Organizers have arranged marches and occupations of Enbridge construction sites. Following the blockade of an Enbridge pump station on June 7, 2021, nearly 250 people were arrested. Invoking treaty rights, organizers established an encampment at the headwaters of the Mississippi River at a site where Enbridge intends to bury the pipeline.

1969 Detroit mayoral election

The 1969 Detroit mayoral election took place on November 4, 1969. It saw the election of Roman Gribbs. The election was historic for Richard H. Austin being the first Black individual to advance to a Detroit mayoral general election.
