Brittany Phelan (born September 24, 1991) is a Canadian freestyle skier who competes in ski cross. She was formerly an alpine skier, specializing in slalom skiing. She won the silver medal in women's ski cross at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
Phelan represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where she finished 15th in the slalom. [2] However, she suffered injuries during the following season which led to a drop in her World Cup ranking, and led her to follow in the footsteps of a number of other Canadian alpine skiers such as Louis-Pierre Hélie, Brady Leman, Kelsey Serwa and Georgia Simmerling by switching to ski cross. [3]
In December 2016, she set a new personal best in ski cross when she finished eleventh at a World Cup competition in Val Thorens, [4] following it up by setting another personal best by finishing seventh in the first of two rounds at Innichen later that month. [5] Since 2013, Brittany is part of the Tremblant athletes ambassadors program.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Phelan made it to the final race of the ski cross event. At one point in fourth place, she passed Sandra Näslund and Fanny Smith to finish in second place behind teammate Serwa. [6]
Alberto Tomba is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy. He was the dominant technical skier in the late 1980s and 1990s. At 6 ft tall and 90 kg, his powerful build was a contrast to the lighter, more traditional technical skiers who prioritised agility over muscle. Tomba was able to take advantage of the introduction of spring-loaded ski gates which replaced the older, solid gates in the early 1980s by using his power to maintain a faster, more direct line through courses. Tomba won three Olympic gold medals, two World Championships, and nine World Cup season titles: four in slalom, four in giant slalom, and one overall title. He was popularly called Tomba la Bomba.
Tina Maze is a retired Slovenian World Cup alpine ski racer.
Julia Marie Mancuso is a retired American World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. She won the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was the silver medalist in both downhill and combined in 2010, and the bronze medalist in the combined in 2014. She has also won five medals at the World Championships and seven races in regular World Cup competition. Her four Olympic medals are the most ever for a female American alpine skier.
Ski cross is a type of skiing competition. Despite its being a timed racing event, it is often considered part of freestyle skiing because it incorporates terrain features traditionally found in freestyle. Ski cross courses have both naturally occurring terrain and artificial features including big-air jumps and high-banked turns. What sets ski cross apart from other alpine skiing disciplines is that there's more than one skier racing down the course. Any intentional contact with other competitors leads to disqualification.
Thomas Grandi is a retired Canadian alpine skier. He specialized in technical skiing giant slalom and slalom.
Canada has competed at every Winter Olympic Games, and has won at least one medal each time. By total medals, the country's best performance was in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games where Canadian athletes won 29 medals. Canada set a new record for most gold medals won by a country in a single Winter Olympics with 14 at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 13 gold medals held by the Soviet Union (1976) and Norway (2002). Both Germany and Norway matched the record total of 14 gold metals in Pyeongchang in 2018.
Christine Béranger-Goitschel is a former French alpine skier. She is the elder sister of fellow champion skier Marielle Goitschel and the aunt of the former speed skier Philippe Goitschel. Her sister Patricia was a national junior champion in the slalom in 1964.

Ashleigh McIvor DeMerit is a Canadian retired freestyle skier currently residing in Whistler, British Columbia. McIvor was a member of the Canadian national ski cross team and became the first gold medal winner of women's ski cross at the 2010 Winter Olympics. She is also a former world champion in ski cross and has a second-place finish at the Winter X Games to her credit as well.
Dave Duncan is a World Cup freestyle skier. Duncan is currently a member of the Canadian National Ski Cross Team.
Julia Murray is a Canadian retired freestyle skier and resides in Whistler, British Columbia. Murray was a member of the Canadian national ski cross team for 6 years. She was a FIS World Championships silver medalist in 2011. She competed in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games for the debut of Ski Cross and came 12th with an injured knee. As a result of her knee injuries, Murray retired from competitive sport in 2012.
Kelsey Serwa is a retired Canadian freestyle skier who was a member of the Canadian national ski cross team. She won a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She is the 2011 FIS World Champion and two times Winter X Games champion. In addition, she has won a bronze medal at the 2010 X Games.
Christopher Del Bosco, is an American-born, Canadian freestyle skier who currently resides in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Del Bosco is a member of the Canadian national ski cross team. He is the reigning FIS World Champion and X Games champion in ski cross and has four other medals from the X Games including one gold, one silver, and two bronze. Del Bosco was a United States national champion prior to switching to the Canadian team.
Georgia Simmerling is a Canadian road and track cyclist, who currently competes for UCI Women's Team Sho-Air TWENTY20. Simmerling has also previously competed in alpine skiing and skicross, and is the first Canadian to compete in three different sports in three different Olympic Games.
Gauthier de Tessières is a World Cup alpine ski racer from France, and has competed in two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. He made his breakthrough on the Alpine Skiing World Cup in a giant slalom in Val-d'Isère in December 2008, where after finishing 30th in the first run to narrowly qualify for the second run, he worked his way up to finish third overall, bettering his previous World Cup personal best of 15th. He won the silver medal in the super-G at the 2013 World Championships, after being added to the French team as an injury replacement. De Tessières announced his retirement from competition in January 2014 after he was not selected for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Marielle Thompson is a Canadian freestyle skier specializing in ski cross. She won gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Marielle was the overall World Cup champion for ski cross in 2011–2012 for which she won the Crystal Globe and was also third overall in freestyle in the same year. In Marielle's 2013–2014 & 2016–17 seasons she won the World Cup Overall Crystal Globe.
Brady Leman is a Canadian freestyle skier specializing in ski cross, and the reigning Olympic champion in that discipline following his victory in the ski cross event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Ester Ledecká is a Czech snowboarder and alpine skier. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Ledecká won gold medals in the super-G in alpine skiing, and in the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding, becoming the first person to win two gold medals at the same Winter Olympics using two different types of equipment. She was the second woman to win Olympic gold in two separate disciplines but the first to do so at the same Winter Olympics. She was the first Czech to win the parallel giant slalom in snowboarding at the FIS Snowboard World Cup.
Michelle Gisin is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who competes in all disciplines. She became an Olympic gold medalist having won the women's combined event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea. Michelle is the younger sister of alpine ski racers Marc and Dominique Gisin.
Alice Robinson is a New Zealand alpine ski racer. At age 16, she competed in the women's giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
