Brittany Smith (born 25 March 1991) is an American shot put and hammer thrower. She was the 2023 NACAC U23 champion in the shot put.
Smith grew up in Oak Park, Illinois where she attended Oak Park River Forest High School. Her best high school state finish was fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 143 feet 2.6 inches. [2]
In college, Smith competed for the Illinois State Redbirds track and field team from 2009 to 2013. She earned two runner-up performances at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the shot put and hammer throw. [3] During her junior year, she won two medals at the 2012 NACAC U23 Championships in Athletics, winning the shot put and taking the silver medal in the hammer throw. [1]
Following graduation, Smith was the Director of Operations for track and cross country programs at Illinois State University. [4] In 2015, Smith briefly was the world leader in the women's shot put, after she set her personal best mark of 19.01 metres at an indoor track meet on 17 January. [5]

Michelle Denee Carter is an American shot putter. She is the former American record holder in the event with a distance of 20.63 m set at the 2016 Olympic Games. She was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2018.
Anita Włodarczyk is a Polish hammer thrower. She is the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Olympic champion, and the first woman in history to throw the hammer over 80 m; she currently holds the women's world record of 82.98 m. She is considered the greatest women's hammer thrower of all time.

Anna Jelmini is an American female track and field athlete. On May 13, 2009 she set the US high school record in the discus throw with a toss of 190 feet 3 inches, breaking the existing record by US Olympian Suzy Powell set in 1994 and subsequently tied by Jelmini on April 24, 2009. On the same day she threw the shot put 54 feet 4-3/4 inches, the second longest toss in US high school history behind US Olympian Michelle Carter's 54 feet 10-3/4 inches, from 2003. Jelmini graduated from Shafter High School in Shafter, California in 2009 and attended Arizona State University. Due to these record breaking performances, at the end of the 2009 season she was named Gatorade's National Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year and Track and Field News "High School Athlete of the Year." Anna Jelmini also received the key to the city in 2009.
The North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships is a continental track and field athletics event organised by the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association. The last of the six IAAF areas to hold a continental senior athletics competition, the NACAC Championships' inaugural edition was held in 2007 in San Salvador, El Salvador. Three hundred athletes competed at the 2007 Championships and a total of 26 nations were represented. The United States dominated the first edition with a total of 43 medals, including 28 gold medals. Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago took second and third places with totals of 20 and 11 medals, respectively.

The NACAC U23 Championships in Athletics is an under-23 athletics competition held between the member associations of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC). Rules and regulations were approved at an extraordinary meeting of the members attending the XVIII Central American and Caribbean Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela held on August 18, 1998. First, the competition was open for athletes aged under-25. The Congress held on the island of Grenada on July 3, 2003, resulted in the reduction of the age limit for its bi-annual championships to athletes under-23 years of age in the year of competition.
