Bulbophyllum is a genus of mostly epiphytic and lithophytic orchids in the family Orchidaceae. It is the largest genus in the orchid family and one of the largest genera of flowering plants with more than 2,000 species, exceeded in number only by Astragalus. These orchids are found in diverse habitats throughout most of the warmer parts of the world including Africa, southern Asia, Latin America, the West Indies, and various islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Orchids in this genus have thread-like or fibrous roots that creep over the surface of trees or rocks or hang from branches. The stem is divided into a rhizome and a pseudobulb, a feature that distinguished this genus from Dendrobium. There is usually only a single leaf at the top of the pseudobulb and from one to many flowers are arranged along an unbranched flowering stem that arises from the base of the pseudobulb. Several attempts have been made to separate Bulbophyllum into smaller genera, but most have not been accepted by the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families.
Begoniaceae is a family of flowering plants with two genera and about 2040 species occurring in the subtropics and tropics of both the New World and Old World. All but one of the species are in the genus Begonia. There have been many recent discoveries of species in the genus Begonia, such as Begonia truncatifolia which is endemic to San Vincente, Palawan. B. truncatifolia is smaller in size than other species of the genus Begonia and this new species is proposed Critically Endangered by standards set by the IUCN. The only other genus in the family, Hillebrandia, is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and has a single species. Phylogenetic work supports Hillebrandia as the sister taxon to the rest of the family. The genus Symbegonia was reduced to a section of Begonia in 2003, as molecular phylogenies had shown it to be derived from within that genus. Members of the genus Begonia are well-known and popular houseplants.
Pluteus salicinus is a European psychedelic mushroom that grows on wood. It is an edible mushroom after parboiling.
Fimbristylis is a genus of sedges. A plant in this genus may be known commonly as a fimbry or fimbristyle. There are 200 to 300 species distributed worldwide. Several continents have native species but many species have been introduced to regions where they are not native. Some are considered weeds. These are typical sedges in appearance, with stiff, ridged stems and cone-shaped terminal panicles of spikelets. They are found in wet environments, and are most diverse in tropical and subtropical regions.
Arctostaphylos myrtifolia is a rare species of manzanita known by the common name Ione manzanita. It is endemic to the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. It grows in the chaparral and woodland plant community on a distinctive acidic soil series in western Amador and Calaveras Counties. There are only about 17 occurrences, but the plant is abundant in some areas of its limited range. This is a federally listed threatened species.
Bulbophyllum annandalei or Annandale's Bulbophyllum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum in section Cirrhopetalum.
Bulbophyllum othonis is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum in section Cirrhopetalum.
Bulbophyllum rosemarianum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.
Bulbophyllum scabratum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum in section Cirrhopetalum.
Jean Marie Bosser, sometimes listed as Jean-Michel Bosser was a French botanist and agricultural engineer who worked extensively in Madagascar and Mauritius.
Dendrobieae is a tribe in the subfamily Epidendroideae, in the family Orchidaceae. The Dendrobieae are mostly tropical, epiphytic orchids which contain pseudobulbs.
Pluteus americanus is a North American and Russian psychedelic mushroom that grows on hardwoods.
Bulbophyllum translucidum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum endemic to Samar, Leyte and Agusan, Philippines. It is named after the translucent nature of the tepals. It is placed in section Sestochilus.
Hypericum huber-morathii is a flowering plant in the family Hypericaceae, section Adenosepalum, and the type species of the Hypericum huber-morathii group.
Bulbophyllum bonaccordense is a species of orchid native to India. This species was first formally named by C. Sathish Kumar in 1989 as Trias bonaccordensis. It was transferred to the genus Bulbophyllum in 2014.. It is most closely related B. stocksii Benth. ex Hook.f. but flowers are creamy yellow with crimson red spots throughout, sepals 10-veined, petals 3-veined and operculum papillose at the head region. B. stocksii has uniformly ochre yellow flowers without any spot, sepals 7-veined, petals 1-veined and operculum without any papilla.
