The Bungehuis is a monumental office building on the Spuistraat, Amsterdam, built in 1934. In 1971 the building was rented by the University of Amsterdam, which used it to house the department of humanities and later purchased it. The building is a Rijksmonument.
The Bungehuis was built as an office building for the N.V. Bunge's Handelmaatschappij. Its design was functionalis. Three of its sides are freestanding; its boundaries are the Paleisstraat, Spuistraat, and Singel. [1]
Twenty houses had to be torn down to make room for the concrete skeleton. The first architect was Adolf Daniël Nicolaas van Gendt, but after his untimely death in 1932, W.J. Klok was assigned the job of finishing the building.
In 1971 the University of Amsterdam rented the building for the humanities department, as a temporary solution; the permanent home of the department was to be a large building on Uilenburg, near the IJtunnel. In 1974, the university decided against that purchase and bought the Bungehuis. It housed information desks for various language studies, office space, and classrooms. Close by was the PC Hoofthuis, which featured the same functions for the psychology department.
The university desired to sell both buildings to real estate developers. [2] The Bungehuis was sold in February 2015 to Aedes Real Estate, which was to rent it to Soho House, which planned to use it for a private club with restaurant and 79 hotel rooms. [3] Students, however, occupied the building, from 13 February to 24 February, to protest various decisions by the University; the police removed them. [4] In May 2017 a judge ruled that the building may not be turned into a hotel; the Amsterdam municipality announced it would appeal the decision to the Council of State.
The roof terrace was equipped with a rainwater retention system, which keeps almost 14,000 liters of rainwater and delays its entrance into the city's sewage system. [5]
Since 2018 Soho House has operated the building as a private members club and hotel.
The Wendell O. Pruitt Homes and William Igoe Apartments, known together as Pruitt–Igoe, were joint urban housing projects first occupied in 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. At the time of opening, the complex, which consisted of 33 eleven-story high rises designed in the modernist architectural style by Minoru Yamasaki, was one of the largest public housing developments in the country. It was constructed with federal funds on the site of a former slum as part of the city's urban renewal program. It almost exclusively accommodated African Americans despite being legally integrated.

55 Wall Street, formerly the National City Bank Building, is an eight-story building on Wall Street between William and Hanover streets in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York, United States. The lowest three stories were completed in either 1841 or 1842 as the four-story Merchants' Exchange and designed by Isaiah Rogers in the Greek Revival style. Between 1907 and 1910, McKim, Mead & White removed the original fourth story and added five floors to create the present building. The facade and part of the interior are New York City designated landmarks, and the building is listed on both the New York State Register of Historic Places and the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as a National Historic Landmark. It is also a contributing property to the Wall Street Historic District, listed on the NRHP.

Donington Hall is a mansion house set in parkland near Castle Donington village, North West Leicestershire. The Hall and Estate was purchased in April 2021 by MotorSport Vision, which also operates the neighbouring Donington Park racing circuit.
EverBank Center is a skyscraper in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. Standing 447 feet tall, it is the city's third-tallest building, as well as the largest in terms of class "A" rentable area with 956,201 sq ft (88,834.0 m2). Formerly known as the Southern Bell Telephone Building, the AT&T Tower, and EverBank Center, it took its former name in 2012 when EverBank moved employees into the building and acquired signage rights. The building is currently called TIAA Bank Center, although no formal announcement has been made, and signage changes have not been completed, as of EverBank's rebranding, effective on June 4, 2018. The name TIAA Bank stood on the building until it was removed on September 25th, 2023.
The Harbour Rocks Hotel is a heritage-listed pub, hotel, shops and former warehouse and terrace cottages located at 34–40 and 42–52 Harrington Street in the inner city Sydney suburb of The Rocks in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1873 to 1875; and again during 1890 for George Evans. It is also known as Evans' Stores. The property is owned by Property NSW, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 10 May 2002.
The Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal is a street in the centre of Amsterdam. The street runs north-south without intersecting major streets other than the intersection with Raadhuisstraat at its halfway point, right behind the Royal Palace. On the eastern side it has a number of alleys connecting to Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk.
Sharif El-Gamal is an American real estate developer. He is the chairman and chief executive officer of Soho Properties, a Manhattan-based real estate company. Hotel Die Port van Cleve is a historical 4-star hotel on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam. The hotel is situated in the centre of Amsterdam, immediately north of the Magna Plaza shopping centre, and west of the Royal Palace on the Dam Square.
The Bungehuis and Maagdenhuis occupations were a protest occupation movement at first the Bungehuis Building of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) by a group of students and a staff-member, referring to themselves as The New University, and then the Maagdenhuis Building of the UvA, its administrative center. The Bungehuis occupation lasted 11 days, from February 13 to February 24, 2015, and the Maagdenhuis occupation (2015) began on the evening of February 25 and lasted until April 11.
The Crown Building is a historic 26-story, 416 foot mixed-use skyscraper at the southwest corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. The lower levels contain retail space, while the upper levels formerly housed offices, but were converted to the luxury Aman New York hotel and residences in 2022. Constructed as the Heckscher Building in 1921, the structure was designed by Warren and Wetmore. It was historically one of the most expensive retail and office space locations in the United States and the hotel has the highest base rate of any hotel in the city.

Trump Parc and Trump Parc East are two adjoining buildings at the southwest corner of Central Park South and Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Trump Parc is a 38-story condominium building, and Trump Parc East is a 14-story apartment and condominium building.
SOHO China is a Chinese building developer, primarily in the office and commercial sector, with some residential and mixed-use properties in its portfolio. The company, which uses the name "SOHO" in both English and Chinese contexts, was founded in 1995 by Chairman Pan Shiyi (潘石屹) and CEO Zhang Xin (张欣). The name SOHO comes from the phrase "Smart Office, Home Office" as the company decided to combine office rooms and residential apartments in the same building to facilitate a comfortable and productive environment.
The Spuistraat in downtown Amsterdam connects the Hekelveld to the Spui. It runs roughly north to south, parallel to the Singel and the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. At the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, the Spuistraat crosses the Raadhuisstraat and Paleisstraat. Originally the Spuistraat was a canal, the Nieuwezijds Achterburgwal. The canal was filled in in 1867, and the street renamed then.
The PC Hoofthuis is an educational building of the University of Amsterdam in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. Built between 1976 and 1983, it is considered one of the primary works of the Dutch architect Theo Bosch, completed in association with Aldo Van Eyck. It currently houses lecture halls for the Faculty of Humanities, much like the historic Bungehuis building down the street on the Spuistraat. It is named after the historian, poet and playwright Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft (1581-1647), because the former home In den Huypot of the Hooft family stood at this location.
