Bunninadden is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the south of the county, comprising the parish of Bunninadden in County Sligo, Ireland.
The club was founded in 1886 by Andrew Marren and John O’Dowd.
James Kearins led Bunninadden to a 1999 league title and then to the 2000 Sligo Senior Football Championship title, the club's first for more than eight decades, before being appointed manager of the Sligo county team in 2003. [1] [2]
In 2000, Bunninadden win the Sligo Senior Football Championship and Owen B Hunt cup for the second time in 109 years beating Coolera/Strandhill with a last minute Padraig Doohan goal. In 2006, Bunninadden again reached the county final, defeating rivals Eastern Harps in the semi-final. The final was against fellow south Sligo club Curry, to whom they lost 1-15 to 2-9.
The club reached the intermediate final in 2009 against Geevagh, but lost 1-08 to 1-07. The following 2 campaigns 2010 and 2011 both ended in losses at the semi-final stage against Drumcliffe.
In 2012, with Gerry Perry now at the helm, the club defeated Tourlestrane to claim a first ever intermediate title for the club.
The club then faced St Aidans of Roscommon in the Connacht semi final in Kiltoom, winning 3-11 to 3-10. In the final, they lost to Charlestown 0-14 to 0-08.
In 2019 under the stewardship of John O'Flaherty, the club lost in the intermediate final against Geevagh after defeating Easkey in the semi-final.
In 2022, the club's seniors lost in the county final to Curry. [3]
The Sligo County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) or Sligo GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Sligo. The county board is also responsible for the Sligo county teams.
The Sligo Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Sligo clubs. The winners of the Sligo Senior Championship qualify to represent the county in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Tubbercurry remain the most successful club, having won the Championship on 20 occasions, the last in 2014. Coolera/Strandhill are the current champions, having defeated Naomh Molaise Gaels in the 2023 final.
The Sligo Senior Hurling Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Sligo GAA among the top hurling clubs in County Sligo. The winner qualifies to represent the county in the Connacht Junior Club Hurling Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship. Previously, the winners used to compete in the Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship but were very unsuccessful at that level.
This is a round-up of the 2006 Sligo Senior Football Championship. The reigning champions, Coolera/Strandhill, who were surprisingly eliminated at the group stage, after losing a playoff tie to neighbours St. John's. Geevagh won the 2006 Sligo Intermediate Football Championship with a victory over St Patrick's and therefore will take part in the 2007 Championship. Curry won the 2006 title, claiming their 6th title in all, by beating Bunninadden in the final.
This is a round-up of the 2004 Sligo Senior Football Championship. Tourlestrane won the title for the seventh time, defeating St. Mary's after a replay. Castleconnor were relegated, but early in 2005 the club requested that they remain in the Senior grade, which was agreed.

The year saw Coolera, who had suffered two final defeats earlier in the decade, end their long wait for Championship glory, stretching back to 1907. They defeated Curry in the final, who had disposed of the holders Tourlestrane after a semi-final replay. No team was relegated in 2005, in order to bring the number of competing teams up to 16 in 2006.
Sligo Intermediate Football Championship is an annual second tier Gaelic Athletic Association competition between Gaelic football clubs organised by Sligo GAA. The winning club qualifies to represent its GAA county in the Connacht Intermediate Club Football Championship and, in turn, goes on to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship.

This is a round-up of the 1994 Sligo Senior Football Championship. Tourlestrane were champions for the first time in twelve years, after defeating Shamrock Gaels in the final. This was the last year that amalgamations competed in the Championship, St. Nathy's and Geevagh/St. Michael's exiting early, though Bunninadden's promotion to Senior level meant the end of the former alliance in any event. Ballymote returned to the Championship after a 27-year gap, but didn't enjoy much success.

This Championship, after a number of years of being dominated by Eastern Harps and Tourlestrane, provided a novel final pairing, as Bunninadden and Coolera/Strandhiill contested the final, Coolera having dispatched both of the previous champions en route. The destination of the title went down to the last minute, as a dramatic injury-time goal gave Bunninadden their first title for 109 years, leaving Coolera devastated, after leading for much of the game.
Naomh Molaise Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club covering much of the northern area of County Sligo, comprising Cliffoney (Ahamlish) and part of the Drumcliffe/Maugherow parishes. The club is a combination of a number of older clubs, including Grange, Cliffoney and Maugherow, and had fielded as Grange–Cliffoney before adopting the present name in 2003. Currently the champions of the Dr Taheny Cup for the minor A championship, a first-time achievement for the club.
St John's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Carraroe and the eastern ward of Sligo, Republic of Ireland. It is one of the newer clubs in the county, having been formed in 1987 after a re-organisation of the GAA structures in the Sligo urban area. The club's grounds, formerly known as Cuilbeg, have been renamed Stenson Park in memory of former Sligo player and Curry/St John's club man Johnny Stenson, and were formally opened in October 2012 by GAA President Liam O'Neill.
Coolera/Strandhill is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Coolera Peninsula, comprising the parish of Strandhill and Ransboro in County Sligo, Republic of Ireland.
