C.M.S. St. John's High School is the oldest school in Nadia district and sixth oldest educational institution in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is situated in Krishnanagar, Nadia. [1]
In the 18th century, in order to spread English education and missionaries' works, the Church Missionary Society established some societies which were mostly controlled by the church. Such missionary work was started in Nadia in 1832 by the C.M.S. committee and C.M.S St. John's High School was established in 1834 [2] by German Christian missionaries. Rev. W.Deerr and Rev. Blumhardt founded the school at Krishnagar town, [3] before the Krishnagar municipality and Krishnagar Government College.[ citation needed ]

Charles Theophilus Ewald Rhenius was a German-born missionary of the Church Mission Society (CMS). He was the first CMS missionary to arrive at India. For his missionary work in the Tirunelveli district he came to be known as the "Apostle of Tirunelveli". He was involved in the attempt to revise the Fabricius version of the Tamil Bible and also published a Tamil grammar book. Rhenius’ split from the Anglican Church in 1830 and started his own congregation. Rhenius' work was recognized in 1980 by the Reverend Daniel Abraham, the then Church of South India (CSI) bishop of Tirunelveli diocese. Rhenius's work was given official recognition by the Anglican Communion during the Tirunelveli diocese bicentenary celebration in 1980, in which, all the bishops, including Anglican bishop Stephen Neill and all the presbyters took an oath in front of the tomb of Rev Rhenius to follow the path of the resting soul, regard to evangelism.
Christianity in West Bengal, India, is a minority religion. According to the 2011 census of India, there were 658,618 Christians in West Bengal, or 0.72% of the population. Although Mother Teresa worked in Kolkata (Calcutta), Christianity is a minority religion in Kolkata as well. West Bengal has the highest number of Bengali Christians. Bengali Christians have been established since the 16th century with the advent of the Portuguese in Bengal. Later in the 19th and 20th centuries, many upper-class Bengalis converted to Christianity during the Bengali Renaissance under British rule, including Krishna Mohan Banerjee, Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Anil Kumar Gain, and Gnanendramohan Tagore. Aurobindo Nath Mukherjee was the first Indian to be Anglican Bishop of Calcutta.
James Long (1814–1887) was an Anglo-Irish priest of the Anglican Church. A humanist, educator, evangelist, translator, essayist, philanthropist and a missionary to India, he resided in the city of Calcutta, India, from 1840 to 1872 as a member of the Church Missionary Society, leading the mission at Thakurpukur.

The history of Anglicanism in Sichuan began in 1887 when Anglican missionaries working with the China Inland Mission began to arrive from the United Kingdom. These were later joined by missionaries from the Church Missionary Society and Bible Churchmen's Missionary Society. Or according to Annals of Religion in Mianyang, in 1885, a small mission church was already founded in Mianyang by Alfred Arthur Phillips and Gertrude Emma Wells of the Church Missionary Society. Missionaries built churches, founded schools, and distributed Chinese translations of Anglican religious texts. These efforts were relatively successful and Anglicanism grew to become one of the two largest denominations of Protestant Christianity in the province, alongside Methodism.

Amelia Dorothea Baker, Sr (1802–1888) was a religious educational missionary working in Kottayam, Kerala, India in the 19th century. She grew up in a missionary family and married fellow religious missionary Henry Baker. With the Church Missionary Society, Baker worked to for the education of women and girls of the community, founding of the first CMS girls' school in Travancore. Baker Memorial Girl's High School was the first school to implement uniforms to promote equality amongst students and in 1952 became the home of India's first Girl Guide troops.
