C. Haley Bunn (born 1985 or 1986) [1] is an American attorney who was appointed to serve as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia.
A native of Oceana,West Virginia,Bunn was born into a coal mining family. She earned a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University and a Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law, [2] where she was an honors graduate in 2007. In 2010 Bunn graduated Order of the Coif and Order of Barristers from WVU College of Law. [3]
Bunn began her career as an attorney for Steptoe &Johnson. She later served as an assistant US attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia. A specialist in prosecuting opioid-related cases,Bunn was selected to serve on the U.S. Department of Justice's Opioid Fraud and Abuse Detection Unit in 2017. [4]
On April 6,2022,Bunn was appointed by Governor Jim Justice to succeed Evan Jenkins as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. [5] [6] [7] and took office on April 27,2022. [3] She was sworn into office on May 12,2022, [8] making her the youngest woman to serve on the court. [1]
Bunn lives with her husband and two children in Charleston,West Virginia. [9] They attend Bible Center Church,and Bunn serves on the board of the Bible Center School. [9] She is also a member of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia and has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. [9]
The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia is the state supreme court of the state of West Virginia,the highest of West Virginia's state courts. The court sits primarily at the West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston,although from 1873 to 1915,it was also required by state law to hold sessions in Charles Town in the state's Eastern Panhandle. The court also holds special sittings at various locations across the state.
Earl Ray Tomblin is an American politician who served as the 35th governor of West Virginia from 2011 to 2017. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously served in the West Virginia Senate from 1980 to 2011 and as president of the West Virginia Senate from 1995 to 2011. Tomblin became acting governor in November 2010 following Joe Manchin's election to the U.S. Senate. He won a special election in October 2011 to fill the unexpired term ending on January 14,2013,and was elected to a full term as governor in November 2012.

He resigned from the court on February 4,2022. He served as a U.S. Representative from West Virginia from 2015 to 2018. He is a Republican,having switched his party affiliation from Democratic in 2013.

Menis E. Ketchum II is an American politician and jurist who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. He was elected as a Democrat to a twelve-year term on the Court in November 2008 and served as chief justice in 2012 and served a second term as chief justice in 2016. He resigned in July 2018 with slightly less than 18 months left in his term. Ketchum resigned prior to the Impeachment of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia,but was still implicated by the House of Delegates. On July 31,2018,he pled guilty to a felony count of fraud related to his personal use of a state vehicle and gas fuel card.
Timothy Paul Armstead is an American politician who has served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia since 2018. In 2024,he began his second term as the chief justice. He formerly represented 40th District in the West Virginia House of Delegates. In 2015,Armstead became the first Republican Speaker of the House of Delegates in 84 years,serving in the position until 2018. Armstead is originally from Clendenin,West Virginia.
The 2011 West Virginia gubernatorial special election was a special election held on October 4,2011 to fill the office of the West Virginia Governor,which became vacant upon the resignation of Joe Manchin,who resigned after he won a U.S. Senate special election. Lieutenant Governor and Senate President Earl Ray Tomblin,first in the line of succession to the Governorship,subsequently became acting governor. On January 18,2011,the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals ruled that a special election for the Governorship must be held so a new governor can be in place by November 15,2011,exactly one year after Manchin resigned. The primary election was held on May 14. Tomblin and Republican Bill Maloney won their respective primaries.
